What Fire Didn’t Take Out The Demolition Team Will

LaPorte Mansion

On May 26, a fire broke out at what’s known as the LaPorte Mansion at 1030 Lighthouse, severely damaging the five-bedroom, four-bathroom home, built in 1895. It appeared in Hollywood productions in the 1950s and 1970s but was in need of renovation. After the fire, the owner, Bill Turrentine, opted to tear it down.

A worker told The Pine Cone Thursday morning that the process of tearing down the home could begin Monday and that crews would likely be there all week cleaning up the remnants of the demolished home.

Newcomer Wants Live Music And Alcohol On Forest Ave

Good location. Are the apartments on the second floor still rented out? Hope they don’t have to share a sewer line with Pavel’s.

Resident Michaela Kuenster has proposed opening a business called Pop & Hiss in a 2,640-square-foot commercial building at 215 Forest Ave., formerly the site of a silk screen shop.

Kuenster — a music teacher who moved to P.G. from Los Angeles five years ago — said she envisions a record shop, food, a live music venue that could accommodate about 80 people, and an enclosed 1,450-square-foot beer garden to the rear of the building on Grand Avenue.

Need For Speed – Rec Trail

Racers whiz by, tourists block the paved portion. Admin here was nearly run over by two E-Bikes on the sidewalk downtown.

Bicycle Crash

Pacific Grove took a different approach when e-bikes started appearing on the scene, and in 2020 set a unilateral 12mph speed limit on its portion of the Rec Trail. I am not a fast biker, but on flat ground, I can tell you that you don’t even have to break a sweat to exceed 12mph on a regular old human-powered bike. Five minutes of observation in P.G. is all it takes to see this bizarrely low speed limit violated, and the same old premise that predated the speed limit comes into play: Pay attention and be courteous.

Unfortunately, for busy stretches of multi-use resources like the Rec Trail, “pay attention and be courteous” may not be enough clarity. The potential for widening the Rec Trail is low, Garcia tells me, based on right-of-way. Look for more on potential signage and speed limits to come in the coming years as the data gathering process ramps up.

DEI Comes Up With A List Of Special Days To Recognize

The DEI committee is still just an idiotic waste of time even without the bitter, hateful Tina Rau. Disagree with them and you can be called a Nazi.

A draft of the calendar identifies widely recognized
religious holidays observed in the United States such as
Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah and Yom Kippur. It also
includes dates important to Buddhism and Islam, along
with lesser known events and religions, such as Zartosht
No-Diso, which honors the prophet of Zoroastrianism —
a religion estimated to have a mere 120,000 followers
worldwide.
“By no means is this calendar extensive. How can it
be?” Mark said Wednesday, later adding that she didn’t
think there “could ever be too many items on it.”

So I’ve researched a bit and came up with more diverse and equitable holidays to put on the calendar.

Boating Accident Leaves Ship On Asilomar Beach

A three-hour tour they said, it will be fun they said.

Weather started getting rough and the tiny ship was tossed.

Boat on the rocks

Five people had to be helped to shore Saturday morning by lifeguards after they abandoned their boat at Asilomar State Beach in Monterey County.

According to the Monterey Fire Department, they received reports of a group of people attempting to paddle their motorboat back out to sea at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, but due to winds and high surf they gave up their attempt and exited the boat.

They ended up stuck on a rock outcropping in the Pacific Ocean about 10 feet away from land.

Come-Heres Want To Remove the Grove Of P.G.

Move. Why buy a home under trees if you have dendrophobia?

Wtf Tree

Christie Monson and Tim Calvert know the municipal battle well. With three, 50-foot-plus cypress trees in their front yard – and worries one or more will fall onto their home, especially amid consistently stormy weather of late – the Pacific Grove couple has been wrestling with the city to have the towering conifers removed.

So far, the city has denied the pair’s request, maintaining the trees are healthy and don’t need to come out.

But Monson and Calvert aren’t convinced. Instead, they’ve started sleeping as far away from the trees as they could get, moving their bed from their front-of-house bedroom to a nook near the back.

Sick Rec Trail Attacker’s Parole Upheld

Horse pucky.

Jason Blad

The grounds for approval, laid out at the board’s October hearing, rested on “Youthful Offender” factors, the DA’s Office said in a press release announcing Blad’s parole. On its website, the CDCR explains that the “idea of a youth offender parole hearing is based on scientific evidence showing that parts of the brain involved in behavior control continue to mature through late adolescence and that adolescent brains are not yet fully mature until a person is in his or her mid-to-late 20s.”

Why Is It Always Central Pharmacy?

Put a steel gate up. Central Drugs

On Feb. 14. at about 2:25 a.m., two men broke the front glass door of Central Avenue Pharmacy at 133 15th St. Surveillance video shows them hurling a large rock at the
door several times before breaking it, kicking in the broken glass panel, climbing in and hopping over the sales counter toward the drugs.

With firearms drawn, Pacific Grove Police officers entered the pharmacy and searched  for the thieves, Gordon said, but they had already taken off. The burglars took less than $50 worth of codeine,” Gordon said. “The only thing they took is liquid codeine-type products.”
