End the furloughs. Put some employees back to work.

The mid-year review of the city’s financial situation indicates that the city has the ability to cancel the remaining six furlough days, according to the city council agenda.

Cancellation of the remaining six furlough days would cost the city approximately $65,000.

Arsonist Pleads Guilty In Tattoo Shop & Restaurant Fires

In all the news articles reporting on this there is no mention whatsoever of the suspicious fire at the David Avenue apartment complex that happened around the same time.

Nathan Augustine, age 28 of Pacific Grove, pled guilty to two counts of arson and admitted using an incendiary device.

Police searched Augustine’s house and found numerous containers of lighter fluid, gloves similar to gloves found at the Lattitudes Restaurant, and the unique symbol similar to the British Union Jack with additional lines through it. Augustine was arrested and confessed to the crimes.

Mayor Delivers State Of The City Message

One sentence sums it up:

People are out of work, businesses are closed, and residents have lost their homes to foreclosures, Garcia said.

Nothing earth shattering. Carry on. Write some checks to bring tourists to P.G. and never mind there is nothing for them to do when they get here, they will be mad as heck and go to Carmel. Library cuts hours, police are short staffed, birds poop.

Boy Scouts Celebrate 100 Years. P.G.Troop 90 Says “Been There, Done That”

Congratulations BSA and thank you Troop 90.

Scouts100th

The Boy Scouts of America will mark its 100th anniversary Feb. 8, when the first scout troop was officially chartered in 1910.

But Troop 90 in Pacific Grove claims to trace its lineage to a scout organization founded in 1908 at the Presidio of Monterey.

Pacific Grove Troop 90 claims to be Troop 1’s direct descendant. In an exchange of letters between Alfred Young, executive of Scout Council 25 in Salinas, and Bullard’s wife in 1936, Young reported that Troop 1 operated from 1908 to 1912, drifted gradually to Pacific Grove from 1912 to 1918, and was registered as Troop 1, Pacific Grove, from 1918 until 1924, when the number was changed to Troop 90.

P.G. Library Still Needs Funds. Let’s Blow $40,000 On A Web Site

And sustainable kook Deborah “Bankrupt” Lindsay calls volunteer websites “schlock”. Some sites might be schlock, but only a schmo would buy a website to mislead tourists to visit our drek ghost town.

Library Book Drop

Pacific Grove will spend nearly $40,000 on a new website the city says will draw more tourists downtown and bolster business.

Though the Pacific Grove City Council went back and forth on the issue at the Jan.20 meeting, council members ultimately approved a resolution authorizing the city to spend $39,950 on a new website.

Tommy Pollacci’s Day In Court Pushed Away – Down The Stairs

Tom Pollacci

The defense attorney for a Pebble Beach man charged with raping an unconscious woman said he has two experts who believe the alleged victim was injured when she fell, not during an attack.

Andy Liu plans to argue at trial that Thomas Pollacci had consensual sex with the woman and brought her to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after she sustained a severe head injury in a fall.

That trial, which was to have begun Monday, was continued to March 22 because the prosecutor needed time to review reports by a forensic pathologist and a biomechanical engineering professor hired by Liu.

Are we for some reason here drifting away from the REAL reason Tommy is in this situation? Rape. RAPE. The trial is for rape.

One Less Gallery On Forest Avenue. Does Anyone Notice?

A vapid shop rarely open replaced by a vapid shop never opened.

Robert Lewis was excited when January 2008 was the best month for sales at his small art gallery — but then the recession hit quickly.

A month later, sales “were virtually zero,” said Lewis. They haven’t been much better since, so Lewis is closing Le Beau Soleil Gallery in downtown Pacific Grove on Saturday.

Now, Lewis said he will spend about half his time painting and marketing his oils, which start at about $5,000.

Hmmm, $5,000 for one of these and the man wonders why sales are zilch.Art Question Mark

And cries when pressed.

If this $10K contribution check ever existed there would be a canceled check to prove it, right?

Today, Agha stands by his story, and he contends the FPPC failed to pursue the case “because of monetary constraints.” He said he has hired a Sacramento attorney to try to convince the agency to reopen the investigation.

“It’s all there if they did their job correctly,” he said.

Potter said, “For me it’s ancient history. I have been exonerated, and I’m not spending time worrying about it.”

As for Agha’s pursuit of the matter, Potter said Agha appears to believe “the more money he spends the more he will get his way.”
