Officials in the San Francisco Bay Area are reporting a quiet night after a tsunami advisory was issued Tuesday for the coastal areas of California and Oregon.

In nearby Pacifica, police closed Pacific Pier earlier that usual, though the waves late Tuesday were reported to be no bigger than those generated during a winter storm.

96 Year Old Woman Beaten To Death In P.G.

Around eight last night, Pacific Grove Police responded to a medical emergency on the 2800 block of Forest Hill Boulevard. When Officers arrived, they found 96-year-old Charlotte Danvers lying on the floor, badly beaten. Police say she suffered traumatic injuries and died earlier this morning. Bill Speacht lives next door to the Danvers and he says this comes as a shock to the whole neighborhood.

“We did hear some screaming before and things like that, but I mean it wasn’t like a common occurrence, and that’s what I told police,” says Bill Speacht.

Police arrested Danvers’ daughter, 63-year-old Jean Danvers. Officers charged her with homicide and she was booked into the Monterey County Jail today. Neighbors say they didn’t know the family well.

Lover’s Point Beach has been posted with an advisory due to high indicator bacteria.

Samples were taken on Monday and remain posted until samples indicate that indicator bacteria are at a safe level for recreational water contact according to state guidelines.

It is recommended that you do not swim in or have contact with storm drain water. Bacteria, viruses, protozoa or chemicals may contaminate storm drain water, and contact with storm drain water may cause illness.

According to the police the suspect walked into the pharmacy and handed the clerk a note demanding Oxycontin. The police say that the suspect then lifted up his shirt revealing a handgun.

The clerk handed over the Oxycontin and the suspect fled the scene.

Next time, slip them sleeping pills. Or laxatives.

Last robbery was in June. That robber got caught when the P.G.P.D. got lucky. They must have been too busy investigating noisy wind chimes today..

Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Garrison was working on the boat dock when he noticed and heard commotion on San Carlos Beach. A pedestrian notified Garrison of the situation, and called emergency medical services.

Garrison grabbed a first-aid kit from the station’s 47-foot Motor Lifeboat and ran to the beach.

Once on scene, Garrison found a 39-year-old female scuba diver unconscious on the beach. The diver had been pulled out of the water by fellow divers who had already commenced CPR. Garrison assumed CPR efforts and within a minute, the patient regained consciousness.

One of the proponents for the ouster of Pacific Grove Mayor Dan Cort issued an apology Sunday for his actions.

Cort said Sunday he had not received a copy of that letter. He said still believes his stepping down will end what he says has been a distraction in getting the city back on track.

Ignoring the threat made by activist David Dilworth to resign by August 4th or possibly face a recall, Mayor Dan Cort showed up at Wednesday nights city council meeting amid dozens of supporters.

At the center of the controversy, a vote resolving around the Police Officers Association. The budget anticipated that police officers would defer a 9.8% raise due, by contract, January 1, beginning 2009. The recommended City Council action was to approve agreements with employee associations to implement the planned savings.

“What’s left in Pacific Grove… what’s the Mayor going to give away next?,” questioned Dilworth during his press conference at the Pacific Grove Post Office.

Dan Cort Bailn Like Palin

 

another political twist as Mayor Dan Cort has announced his intent to resign. It comes after the kick-off for a grassroots recall campaign on Tuesday.

Cort was re-elected as Mayor in November. According to a letter he wrote, he will resign effective August 31st. He calls the current situation a “negative environment” and the actions by his opponents “intimidating.”

His two page letter also addresses the bigger picture for the city. “I do not believe it is in the best interest of the City and it’s citizens, to spend the next six to twelve months distracted by a recall effort,” says Cort.

The two man group speaking out in the recall campaign is activist David Dilworth and former council member Terrence Zito. Coincidentally, Dilworth also ran for a seat on the city council in November. He was not elected.

Investigators are now saying it was most likely a Molotov cocktail that started the fire at Creative Visions Tattoo Parlor in Monterey.

The fire started around 5 AM and police believe it may have been set during a burglary. The police department originally received a call for a burglary alarm going off at 800 Lighthouse Avenue, when the arrived at the scene the place was on fire.
