Thefts In P.G. Rising As Gangs Go To ‘Work’

Are we really getting the best for our money paid to the P.G.P.D?

Remember that police commander John Nyunt dismissing fears of gangs living in P.G. saying they just wanted to get away from places like Salinas and Watsonville to have a safer place to live & work? Didn’t mention that ‘work’ to them means stealing people’s stuff.

Cmdr. John Nyunt said there have been 123 thefts and break-ins reported so far this year — about 30 since June.

Last year, from January to August, there were 76 reported thefts and burglaries, he said. Nyunt said officers are doing all they can to keep up, but the department’s staffing level is down.

But they have enough staff to ticket people for having a wind chime .

Deborah King Sent To Mental Hospital Instead Of Court

The young father was picking up his son, Jacob, in front of Pacific Grove Middle School Sept. 2, 2008, when Deborah King allegedly ran him down in her BMW SUV. Though she was arrested and later charged with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter, King has yet to face a trial.

But that doesn’t sit well with Summer Coe, a good friend of the Woods family, who believes King — with five previous DUI convictions on her record — should pay for her fatal error.

“I am outraged that she has yet to face any charges,” Coe said. “It seems that she kind of got away with playing the victim card, where someone else might have been held accountable.”

Going to Patton State Hospital. Does not sound like a cakewalk..

L.A. Times 12/10/2008:

At least one psychiatrist at Patton said he believed conditions have worsened during the period of federal oversight, in part because of a sharp increase in demand for documentation that he says has left clinicians less time for patient care.

“Everyone is so fatigued doing paperwork,” said the psychiatrist, who asked not to be named out of fear it could jeopardize his job. “The assault rate has increased.”

Data posted on the website of the state Department of Mental Health show there have been recent increases in patient-on-patient aggression resulting in major injury as well as increases in the number of self-inflicted major injuries.

Former City Manager Goes Back To Hippydom

Jim Colon-Jello found running P.G. too stressful. Work is only what you make of it.

His last council meeting was in December 2008. After retiring, Colangelo began loosening up his appearance. He replaced his subtle stud earring with a hoop. He now often puts his shoulder-length curly hair in a ponytail or covers it with a floppy hat.

“I tried becoming an alcoholic,” he said jokingly, “but it didn’t work.”

Update – Looks like that he succeeded at the alcohol thing.

David Dilworth’s Attack Fails

During Wednesday’s council meeting, about 14 people addressed the council in support of Cort, but not one spoke in support of the recall effort. Dilworth and Zito have reportedly only collected a handful of the 1,000 signatures of registered voters required to place the recall on the ballot.

The Pine Cone sent questions via email to Dilworth. “Politics, like art, is about drawing the line somewhere,” Dilworth said. “We all have to decide what is too much.”

Though Dilworth’s threatening email may not have broken any laws, Cort said he feels Dilworth’s reputation has been permanently damaged by the email message.

“I think it’s the end of whatever limited credibility that man had,” Cort said.

So, mayor Cort has some sort of spine it seems.

Pine Cone Asks Hear-Old If They Have Learned Anything

In the latest election that David Dilworth failed, the Hear-Old did state in it’s endorsement editorial that Dilworth “has no credibility”.

While Dilworth spoke, the reporter from the Herald took notes. When he finished, the reporter left.

A few days later, the embarrassing episode was reported in the Herald without a hint of skepticism, thus elevating it from a brief farce played out in front of an audience of perhaps 100 people to something that was embellished with the Herald’s credibility even as it was delivered into the hands of tens of thousand of local news consumers, and which now lives forever in the Herald’s archives.

Olga Ospina’s Dead Dog Lawsuit Extended To 81 Year Old

Dog lovers, sheeshe.

Olga

“The actions and inactions of Donald Armstrong were grossly negligent, wanton, indifferent to humanity ….” according to Ospina’s lawsuit.
But in a court declaration in April, Bazan provided possible reason her father didn’t intervene, calling the 81-year-old “senile” with “diminishing reasoning abilities and slower thought processes.”

Pollacci Goes To Trial

Click the credit title below to read the whole sick story over at the Pine Cone.

Tom Pollacci

On April 19, 2008, she came to the Monterey Peninsula to visit a friend and, after driving around, went into Ron’s Liquors to buy a pack of cigarettes, according to testimony by retired Pacific Grove Police Cmdr. Tom Uretsky. Pollacci recognized her, the two chatted for a few minutes, and she asked if he could get her through the gate at Pebble Beach. He told her he could and entered his number in her cell phone under the contact name, “Thomas My Love.” The following day, she tried to reach him but couldn’t. Later, he called and invited her to stop by the store, which she did.

Please – do not spend your money at Pacific Grove businesses that employ sex offenders or domestic abusers.

Slash & Burn. Layoffs & Cutbacks Imminent

In 2007, the city eliminated 24 employee positions, which included the layoffs of 16 workers. The move was said to save an estimated $580,000. Now, Becklenberg said the council needs to consider more layoffs.
“We will have to look at customer service at city hall,” he said. “Can we afford the same staffing levels?” Becklenberg will also tell council members the city could save tens of thousands of dollars every year simply by loosening it’s notoriously rigid architectural and historic review standards.

Ditch that tourist chamber payoff, don’t think it’s done any good.

They’re Baccccck!

Mothra

Well, when California farm products are banned elsewhere and the ag business goes to heck, we can thank ecoterrorists like David Dilworth for being kind and gentle to the moths.

State officials are calling the invasive light brown apple moth’s recent havoc on two Watsonville berry crops the first “significant damage” since the pest was discovered in California two years ago.

Bolda wrote it was “imperative” growers undertake control measures to inimize the chance of LBAM damage. “The increasing problem of the light brown apple moth — epiphyas postvittana — should be of great interest to all berry growers in the Santa Cruz and Monterey County production district,” Bolda wrote in a blog a week earlier. About 2,400 square miles are under quarantine in California because of the light brown apple moth threat to crops.

Beware Of Rapists At Spanish Bay

Last Tuesday, a woman called the sheriff ’s office and said a man had drugged and then raped her in a Spanish Bay hotel room Saturday night, according to Monterey County Sheriff.

Also on June 7, a teenager told police she was raped on the Spanish Bay golf course, according to MCSO Cmdr. Tracy Brown. A deputy interviewed the girl after Pacific Grove police found the “heavily intoxicated” 17-year-old near Asilomar State Beach.
