Bad drivers. As a former Eardley Ave resident, I saw people speed down the hill, locals and visitors. Roundabouts will not solve the problem.

A Pacific Grove tradition — plowing vehicles into buildings — happened again last week when someone drove a Toyota SUV into a house. The crash occurred Thursday, Aug. 6, at about 3:45 p.m., when the Toyota’s driver struck the corner of a house at Eardley and Pine avenues.

Driver one, who was “most responsible” for the accident, according to police, was visiting from Washington state. The Toyota driver is a Pacific Grove resident. Though driver one failed to yield, responding police officers decided not to issue a citation — another tradition in Pacific Grove.

Does Traffic Safety Mean Removing Crosswalks?

Don’t cross at Pine Avenue at Fountain, go find another. Sure, detour to 15th street? Kids are not going to do that.

The city is expected to hear a report from the traffic engineer who believes it was the right call to remove a crosswalk students would normally use.

He says it’s safer, but parents say otherwise.

Three crosswalks were previously consolidated into one crosswalk at Pine Avenue and 15th street, but there is debate that three is safer.

“They have to go way out of their way to cross at a safe spot and I know some middle schoolers aren’t going to do that,” Sally Jones a resident of Pacific Grove said. “It just makes sense to put it back the crosswalk.”
