Deborah King Sent To Mental Hospital Instead Of Court

The young father was picking up his son, Jacob, in front of Pacific Grove Middle School Sept. 2, 2008, when Deborah King allegedly ran him down in her BMW SUV. Though she was arrested and later charged with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter, King has yet to face a trial.

But that doesn’t sit well with Summer Coe, a good friend of the Woods family, who believes King — with five previous DUI convictions on her record — should pay for her fatal error.

“I am outraged that she has yet to face any charges,” Coe said. “It seems that she kind of got away with playing the victim card, where someone else might have been held accountable.”

Going to Patton State Hospital. Does not sound like a cakewalk..

L.A. Times 12/10/2008:

At least one psychiatrist at Patton said he believed conditions have worsened during the period of federal oversight, in part because of a sharp increase in demand for documentation that he says has left clinicians less time for patient care.

“Everyone is so fatigued doing paperwork,” said the psychiatrist, who asked not to be named out of fear it could jeopardize his job. “The assault rate has increased.”

Data posted on the website of the state Department of Mental Health show there have been recent increases in patient-on-patient aggression resulting in major injury as well as increases in the number of self-inflicted major injuries.

This Month, Deborah King Is Not Competent

What will it be next month?

The murder case against King, who had been in treatment at Natividad Medical Center but is back in custody at the Monterey County Jail, cannot proceed until she is aware of the proceedings. She underwent similar evaluations for competency in the weeks following her arrest, was treated and deemed fit, and had been set for a preliminary hearing last week, when her mental state was again brought into question.

Another Evaluation For Deborah King

If she thought she well enough to drive, shouldn’t she be well enough to go to court?Deborah King

Judge Terrance Duncan appointed a psychiatrist to examine Deborah King at the request of her defense attorney, Daniel Clymo. King was to have faced a preliminary hearing Friday. She will return to court Wednesday to receive the doctor’s report.

It is the fourth time King is being evaluated for her ability to aid in her own defense. One doctor found her competent, and another found her incompetent but re-evaluated and agreed that she had been stabilized with medication.

Clymo told Duncan this week he believes King has worsened and asked that she be examined again.

Another DUI Arrest – Tourist Hit By Driver

KSBW is calling it a hit & run.

A Pacific Grove man is in jail after hitting a pedestrian while driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Lance Millington, 58, was driving his pickup truck on the 800 block of Ocean View Boulevard when he struck an 82-year-old man.

The Hear-old says he’s 48 and mentions no hit an run. But 6:30 AM? Sheeshe.

Pacific Grove police arrested Lance Millington, 48, and charged him with DUI and causing bodily injury to Texas resident Carlos Broughton in the 800 block of Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove. The accident occurred about 6:30a.m. Friday.

Clownafornian reports:

About 6:30 a.m., police said, Carlos Broughton, 82, of Texas, was struck and left lying in the road at the Sea Palm turnout of Ocean Boulevard. Citizens attended him until emergency crews arrived and he could be taken by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Is this the same Lance Millington that is the driver for residents of the Park Lane???

From the Park Lane Classic Residence by Hyatt website:

A day in the life of Lance Millington.

9:00 a.m. I begin to take the residents to their doctor and dental appointments in the Lincoln Town Car. We also take them on group shopping trips to various locations on the Peninsula four days a week and on a tour or activity every Friday afternoon. Friday mornings are reserved for cleaning and maintenance of the vehicles.

DIU Driver To Get Second Second Opinion

Deborah King In Court

“My client would like an independent evaluator,” she said. “She sees Dr. Fithian and Dr. Finnberg fairly often, and with a split decision, I’m uncomfortable with Dr. Fithian going back again.” (When ordered by the court, the $325 to $500 experts receive for the evaluations is provided by taxpayers.)

She sees both of the these “doctors” often and they do not agree on the woman’s mental health?

Have that third doctor examine the first two doctors while we are at it. Are they fit to prescribe drugs?

Doc Says Deborah King Unfit For Trial

A psychiatrist says a Monterey woman is not competent to stand trial for allegedly killing a Pacific Grove father who was picking up his son from school last month. But Wednesday, Judge Adrienne Grover gave prosecutors a chance to seek a second opinion.

Deborah King, 51, is charged with murder and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated in connection with the Sept. 2 accident that killed 35-year-old Joel Woods.

With 5 other DUIs she’s unfit to drive a car, but did anyway . . .

Deborah King Has At Least 5 Prior DUI Convictions

At least five convictions? How many have fallen off the record? How many have been reduced to “wet reckless”? Dang, she has had a problem for a long time. There is no excuse as to why this woman should not have been behind bars when this occurred. 50 years for her, one big fat lawsuit against her.

“In 2nd degree murder, you act with reckless disregard for human life,” explained deputy district attorney Steve Somers, who reported Deborah King has at least five prior DUI convictions. “If you can establish that the person was aware that driving under the influence is dangerous, and that they were under the influence and, knowing the dangers involved, went driving anyway and killed someone, you can establish it was murder.”

The vehicular manslaughter charge stems from her allegedly reckless behavior, and King faces a sentence of 15 years to life for each count if convicted, Somers said.

P.G. Man Killed By Driver In Front Of Middle School

PGMS J Woods Flowers

Joel Woods, 35, was attempting to enter his parked car on Forest Avenue by Pacific Grove Middle School at about noon when he was struck by a car driven by Deborah King, 51, of Monterey, according to Pacific Grove police.

King was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and is being held on $30,000 bail. Earlier reports that King was suspected of drunken driving were incorrect. The ongoing investigation may lead to more serious charges, said Cmdr. John Nyunt.
