Forest Hill Becoming Crime Central – Burglars Hit Pizza My Way

Pizza My Way

Pizza My Way at 1157 Forest Ave. in Pacific Grove was burglarized Thursday, police said.

Officers were called there about 7:30 a.m. and found the glass in the front door smashed. File cabinets inside had been pried open.

File cabinets pried open? Someone looking to steal company secrets?

Letters From The Editor – Farmers Market

Herald Hear-old

Rant: So Pacific Grove merchants don’t want people from outside Pacific Grove selling their wares at the Pacific Grove Certified Farmers Market. That almost makes sense, or it would if the only point to the whole thing was protection of the Pacific Grove merchants. But the customers ought to count for something, don’t you think? Unless we’re missing something, more vendors equals more stuff for sale equals more customers for everyone.

They don’t get it. If they had any sense of customer service they’d stay in town late and buy a booth to extend their wares to the street along side the rest, only with a message that they are also available the other days of the week.

What will it be next month?

The murder case against King, who had been in treatment at Natividad Medical Center but is back in custody at the Monterey County Jail, cannot proceed until she is aware of the proceedings. She underwent similar evaluations for competency in the weeks following her arrest, was treated and deemed fit, and had been set for a preliminary hearing last week, when her mental state was again brought into question.

P.G. Motels Unable To Fleece People 3 Weekends In A Row

Remember all those outrageous rates and forced 3 day stays? Karma.

Cry Baby

The lost potential for multiple sold-out February weekends is hitting local businesses hard, Moe Ammar, president of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, said.

“From a business perspective, it’s really, really bad,” he said. “There are a lot of unhappy hotel owners.”

Typically, this February weekend at the Seven Gables Inn would be all about Valentine’s Day.

The bed and breakfast, just off Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, bills itself as “a truly romantic inn on the very edge of Monterey Bay.”

This week, however, things are a bit more complicated: Bookings are about equally split between the romantic getaway crowd and those here to take in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

New Concessionaire At Asilomar

Old one is not too happy. Obvious.

State Parks announced the award of a 20-year contract to operate Asilomar on Jan. 27. State Parks spokesman Roy Stearns said DNC’s contract expired in 2008 and requests for bidding proposals were advertised, as required by law. ARAMARK, he said, was the only other bidder on the contract.

Under the new contract, scheduled for signing next month, the concessionaire is required to guarantee the state an annual rental rate of $1.9 million or 8.6 percent of gross receipts, Stearns said, whichever is higher, as well as capital improvements, program support and facility maintenance fees.
