So Called “Drunken Rampage” Made Up

Accused man tells his side.

Jay Ballard

The incident started, Ballard said, after he went to his girlfriend’s house after work. He said she became irate after finding an empty liquor bottle in her garage and accused of him of drinking. Ballard, who said he has had previous problems with alcohol, said he hadn’t had a drop to drink that day.

“She flipped out on me,” he said. “It escalated after that.” Ballard said the 40-year-old woman — whose identity is protected because she’s considered a victim of domestic violence — has a history of mental illness, which he said was the driving force behind her story to police.

Notice The Cell Tower In The Schoolyard?

Lighthouse School Cell Towers

That thing snuck in quick with no smart-meter like protests. But of course, ATT was allowed to use the downtown streets to advertise their wireless service that does not work to well in P.G.

Will the butterflies flock to the fake-tree tower AT$T plans to put up or will they avoid it and the nearby monarch sanctuary too?

The tower went in a few months ago at the old Lighthouse School, 1026 Lighthouse Ave., under a one-year lease approved by the school board, according to district assistant superintendent for business Robin Blakley.

AT&T pays the district $1,000 per month for use of the site, Blakley said, noting that the tower is on wheels and can be moved at any time.

AT&T, he said, is looking for places to put a permanent tower and needed a temporary location while the search was under way.

Teen Diver Deaths Ruled Accidental

The deaths of Stephen Anderson, 16, and Keegan Aiazzi, 17, both of Carson City, Nev. were caused by asphyxia due to ocean drowning, the coroner’s report stated. The teens drowned on April 9.

They said forensic inspection of their scuba diving gear showed there hadn’t been any failure to the systems. The gear, recovered from the ocean floor, was tested by Master Dive Repair Technician Ernest Bourne. It was tested in a laboratory and also in ocean conditions similar to what the teens would’ve experienced, the Coroner’s Unit said.

Broken Brokaw Hall Gets Temporary Stay Of Demolition

Brokaw Hall

The one-story wood-frame building, bracketed by two stone chimneys at 263 Grove Acre Ave., is in an advanced state of dilapidation and unsafe, said John Kuehl, city building official.

Kuehl ordered it fenced off immediately and taken down by Friday.

After his emergency order was reviewed April 13 by the city’s Historic Resources Committee, Kuehl said he was willing to delay the order past May 4 until measures could be taken to salvage parts of the building and draw plans for future reconstruction should money become available.

Tax Loving Bill Monning Loses On Sugar Tax

Does the tax on alcohol prevent DUIs and other drunken crimes? This is just another money grab.
Soda Tax

Amid outcry from business organizations, restaurant and beverage groups, grocers and more, an Assembly taxation committee effectively killed the bill. Sponsored by Assembly member Bill Monning, D-Carmel, whose district includes parts of Santa Cruz County, it would have taxed sodas, energy drinks, sweet teas and other sugary beverages, directing the money toward youth education and obesity-prevention programs.

Is The Front Of The Middle School Safe From Traffic?

Helecopter Parent

If the parents think it’s not safe, drop them off somewhere else – they are not forced to use the front of the school, though it might be horrifying for them to not have their little snowflakes out of their sight.

Judy Smith’s children attend Pacific Grove Middle School, and she says Forest Avenue is simply too narrow, and busy for drop-off zones. Standing outside of the school, looking at a parade of cars drive by, Smith says, “This just makes no sense having it here on a busy street like this.”

The Center for Investigative Action wanted to know just how dangerous Forrest Avenue is, so we looked at the accident rates for the past ten years. Out of the 440 accidents on the roadway, only five were in front of the school. Pacific Grove Police Chief Darius Engles says, “The road is really no less safe than any of the roads in Pacific Grove.”

Deborah King Gets 15 Years To Life

hey, hey, goodbye!

Deborah King, 54, was convicted in February of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the death of Joel Woods on Sept. 2, 2008. King’s mandated sentence was enhanced because of five prior convictions for driving under the influence. She will not be eligible for parole until 2023.

Woods’ father, Ken, also asked the court to impose the toughest possible sentence, and recounted what he said he believed were King’s repeated attempts to dodge taking responsibility for his son’s death, including attempts to fake mental incompetence.

Pollacci Attorney Asks For Change Of Venue

Jumping in during some time off to bring this update and show the sign mockups mentioned in the media

Wouden said a Google search of Pollacci’s name turned up 13,000 hits. From March 2009 to February 2011, the three local television stations ran 224 stories on Pollacci’s charges. Five local newspapers, including The Herald, ran 174 articles, one of which quoted a judge saying Pollacci is a predator with a “long-lasting and enduring” reputation as a rapist in the community.

Wouden noted that many websites allow the public to post comments about news stories and www.lighthouseavenue.com ran photos that appeared to depict parking signs in front of Ron’s Liquors stating “Parking Only for Rape Victims” and “Parking Only for Registered Sex Offenders.”

Constant Readers of lighthouseavenue.com should know the Admin’s non news peeves. Open dumpsters is one, another is sidewalk blocking signs. It was there that the sign photos began. On March 12, 2009 this claim that public parking was reserved exclusively for Ron’s Liquor was posted:

Then on March 13, 2009 when the media revealed that Tom Pollacci was a registered sex offender I took the “Liquor Store Only” picture and made this. This website was the first to question “would you show your ID to a sex offender?”

The latest sign mockup was January 21, 2011 – for the trial of even more rape charges for Tommy. The original picture was taken June 6, 2009:

Thanks for reading, and I think Tom will be found guilty anywhere in the USA. Hope he’s enjoying the stay in prison.

She also noted a comment by a Monterey County judge, who stated, “Pollacci has a reputation that is well-known, long-lasting and enduring as a rapist in this community.”

The study also included a doctored photo of a sign that pretended to be in front of Ron’s Liquors on Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove that said “Parking only for registered sex offenders.” The photo appeared on local Internet message boards.

pretended to be in front of Ron’s Liquors? The sign was already on the sidewalk in front of the liquor store. That very Ron’s Liquors sidewalk sign that claims the public parking spaces on Lighthouse Avenue are for their customers only.

Vicious Dog Attack At Good Old Days

Please leave the dogs at home. It could have been a child mauled.

“He is lucky to be alive,” she said. Enns said she took Harry to see the dogs at the SPCA for Monterey County adoption booth when they encountered Heidi, who was also on a leash. Without being provoked, the pit bull suddenly attacked Harry, according to Enns.

The UC Davis veterinary hospital treated Harry, who went back to the facility Wednesday for a checkup. Enns said Harry looks “pretty normal” but that he’s missing
some of his front teeth. She said she is going to look into the possibility of having Harry fitted with dental implants. Meanwhile, Heidi, who was in quarantine
at the SPCA after the attack, was scheduled to be put down Thursday.
