Say Goodbye To The Shoreline

Climate Change Cartoon

In 30 years the beauty of Pacific Grove’s coastline will be GONE! What is it with these climate change experts? It’s always 30 years away from complete DOOM. Do they really believe that the sea is going to rise that much in 30 years? How much has is changed in the last 30 years? Here’s what the U.N. was saying 30 years ago. Has it happened?

A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

OK, so if it’s not global warming it’s those darn squirrels!

The trail would be temporary in the sense that rising sea levels generated by global warming will within 30 years erode the bluffs down to and including Ocean View Boulevard. As the sea continues to encroach on the bluffs, trails and parking will need to be moved inland, a process engineers call “adaptive retreat.” Eventually Ocean View would need to be closed or moved further inland toward what is now the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links, according to the study plan. A long-term plan calls for the boulevard to be closed completely and converted into a two-lane bike path.

With the sea eventually consuming existing parking, the study raised the possibility of creating an electric shuttle service to move people from inland parking to the trail.

Other causes of the erosion and loss of native vegetation along the bluffs include storm runoff, compaction by cars and people, and burrowing ground squirrels, according to the study plan.

No Shortcuts Through Robert Down

After school, before school during school. Not so public property for man talking to himself.

Robert Down Prison

On Dec. 14 about 4:20 p.m., police said the man entered
the Spruce Avenue gate of Robert Down Elementary School
and walked onto the schoolyard near students who were playing basketball.
“They were startled by the man’s demeanor and recalled
that he was talking to himself,” Robert Down principal Sean
Keller told parents through a Dec. 14 email message.
Though class was not in session, numerous students were
still at Robert Down as part of an after-school program. Keller— citing the police — said the man “has never shown aggression toward others,” and entered the school yard merely as a“shortcut through the campus.”

Project Bella Part 2?

Just don’t lose any more money like the last time.

ATC

While the developer has not officially submitted project plans to the city yet, it is taking steps forward with a hotel project in mind, according to Pacific Grove City Manager Ben Harvey.

“The city has been meeting with a potential applicant for the site,” said Harvey, noting the applicant’s name was Comstock Development and that any deal was very preliminary at this point. “They have been doing their due diligence to make sure that this is worth pursuing.”

Harvey continued, “At this point we don’t have an application for a project yet.”

Andronico’s Opening Soon

I remember it as Co Op Foods before it was a Nob Hill.

Andronicos

Andronico’s is a specialty market operated by Safeway with unique offerings that may not be found at regular Safeway stores…

…Anderson previously said the store was first built and opened in 1960 as Purity Supermarket before becoming a Nob Hill Foods some years late.

And under Stupid Things Moe Ammar Says:

“New Monterey and Pacific Grove residents will have access to a very unique shopping experience that is not available on the Peninsula,” said Ammar, who also noted the store’s convenient location, close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. “Aquarium visitors, staff and volunteers can walk a block and do not have to drive to Whole Foods at the mall.”

Drive to Whole Foods? When there’s a Safeway, Trader Joe’s, Lucky and high priced Grove Market close by?

Seong Uk Kang Of P.G. Defrauded Food Stamp Program

Store was “Corner Market” in Salinas.

Kim Hui Young, 68, of Salinas, and her employee, Seong Uk Kang, 56, of Pacific Grove, paid $100,000 in restitution to the Department of Social Services for their participation in illegal food stamp trafficking.

Young and Kang defrauded the program out of thousands of dollars of illegal redemptions by allowing benefit recipients to exchange their CalFresh benefits for cash and other ineligible items.

Not In Big Sur Half Fast Marathon Shut Down

Because of “poor air quality”. Them runners exhaling to much CO2, I reckon.

Due to the rapidly declining air quality situation in the Monterey Bay area, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Monterey Bay Half Marathon scheduled for tomorrow, November 11, 2018. For the last several hours, we have been monitoring weather outlets and tracking wind patterns in our area. This morning, during our 3K and 5K events, air quality was deemed “moderate” and safe for outdoor activity. Saturday afternoon, however, the wind shifted dramatically, blowing smoke from the northeast directly onto our peninsula. Weather maps forecast that air quality in our area will remain in the “unhealthy” to “very unhealthy” area into Sunday afternoon

Ballot measure to keep mini hotels out of residential neighborhoods passes

“Our City Council stopped paying attention to the residents and gave more attention to the out-of-town investors and so we had no choice but to do a ballot initiative,” he said. “The community won.”

Those backing the measure included residents who view STRs and their tenants as disruptive and overrunning their small town and changing the character of “America’s Last Hometown.” There are also associations like the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce concerned that such vacation rentals are negatively affecting the business of the town’s inns and hotels.

Yes On Measure M

“We have a plan if ‘Yes’ wins and if ‘No’ wins,” said P.G. resident Joy Colangelo, noting that if the measure did pass, those for STRs would write another initiative in a year or so to try to get STRs back.

Jenny McAdams Cheats On Her Property Tax

Oopsie! It was a mistake. Sure. And she owns a house in Seaside dontcha know.

A City Council candidate did some scrambling this week when she was told that a property tax deduction she took would indicate she had recently made Seaside her primary residence.

Jenny McAdams, who lives in a rented home in Pacific Grove, said she unknowingly took the $7,000 primary residence deduction on her property tax on the Seaside home she owns in which she says she has long-term renters.

According to Monterey County Assessment Clerk Darlene Bagwell, the $7,000 homeowner’s exemption is entitled to those who own and occupy the home as their primary residence. With it, $7,000 is taken off the accessed value of the property, which amounts to saving $70 a year.

Eardley Family Has Car Stolen

Always – ALWAYS take your keys.

On Sept. 16, Zachary David McGlothen, 22, of Pacific Grove and Charles Gaskins, 44, of Seaside were arrested on suspicion of hotwiring and stealing Ryan and Tracy Travaille’s 2011 Toyota Sienna outside their Eardley Avenue home just as they finished unloading groceries and were about to put their kids in the vehicle. Two laptop computers, a gym bag and other items were also stolen from the couple’s other car.

The Toyota had been missing for eight days until about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 when a citizen contacted the Seaside Police Department.

“Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle” on Mingo Avenue, Seaside Police Deputy Chief Judy Veloz told The Pine Cone. “The officers contacted the guys inside the vehicle and took them into custody.”
