P.G. caved and paid the $100,000 ransom to the Visitors’ Bureau. So the tourists will once again be advised that P.G. exists.

On a 5-2 vote, the council referred the street signing project — which proposes to route traffic up Grand Avenue from Ocean View Boulevard to Lighthouse Avenue in order to move traffic through downtown — to the city’s Beautification Committee.

Residents of Grand Avenue, here’s to your street becoming a tourist path – Why Grand? There’s a tight bottleneck at the library. Or is that “beautification” include paving over the park so the tourists can make their way to the phony charm for sale?

Accused Molester Linked to NAMBLA

Stamm, the owner of a local miniature golf course and an indoor batting cages business, faced preliminary hearing today on eight counts of child molestation, child pornography and attempting to dissuade a witness. The North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) is a group that advocates “benevolent” sexual interaction between men and boys.

During the incidents, according to testimony, Stamm attempted to convince the youth that he was gay.

Prosecutors also filed an allegation that Stamm used pornography in the commission of a crime.

If Stamm is found guilty on that allegation, he would not be eligible for probation. Instead, he would go straight to prison, where he faces a sentence of more than 11 years.

People repeatedly went to the podium and spoke of their disgust that (shudder) their neighborhood is being taken over by a senior home.

Where was the outcry when 17th street or houses on Lighthouse Avenue were taken out of circulation? If the new residents of homes on Spazier were minorities these comeheres would be attacked. But it’s Old People, so it’s ok . .

Residents said the purchases are an expansion of the retirement home’s commercial activity into their neighborhood in violation of city zoning ordinances.

City Attorney David Laredo said the city couldn’t halt a property purchase, but could halt any improper use of the property, such as extending retiree services from the “main campus” of Canterbury Woods to residents of the houses.

But residents of Monterey and surrounding areas told council members they and their friends have come down with aches, pains, sniffles, sore throats, fevers and influenza-like symptoms in the past week since the spraying took place.

Air Force Maj. Tim Wilcox, a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, said his 11-month-old son got sick the morning after his neighborhood was sprayed Sept. 10 and got worse as the week went by until he was admitted to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula for severe respiratory problems.

“I don’t know if the spraying was the cause,” he said. “But it’s a pretty dang good coincidence that it happened when it happened.”

Several adults complained of itching, sneezing, headaches and other problems.

The National Weather Service will conduct a limited communications test of the Tsunami Warning System along coastal California, Oregon and Washington between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Should significant real-life seismic activity occur, however, the test will be canceled.

The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, will broadcast a special test tsunami warning message. The message will be clearly labeled as a test.

Man Accused Of Beating Day Laborer Was From P.G.

Glenn Blevins was found mentally incompetent to stand trial this month in connection with an attack on a day laborer on Fort Ord. Psychiatrist Taylor Fithian concluded paranoid schizophrenia had left the 27-year-old unable to understand the court proceedings and help with his own defense.

He was transferred from Forest Grove Middle School in Pacific Grove to a “therapeutic school” at Gambetta Middle School in Castroville. Doctors first tried antidepressants and later, after diagnosing him as bipolar, lithium.

Neither worked well, Joyce Blevins said, because he had been misdiagnosed. At the time, she said, doctors did not believe schizophrenia could present itself in young children, a school of thought that is now changing.

Her son eventually made his way to Pacific Grove High School, where he was kicked out for threatening a teacher and the principal. He did not graduate, though he later earned his equivalency degree.

We find that a lot of folks come as couples or more. To charge more than $2 per person for 2-buck-chuck equivalent wine is a bit of an inconvenience to people who we hope will be current and future customers. As much as we want to support the chamber, let’s not make cost an issue where people will be having ill feelings if they want to buy some cheap wine.

I will have better quality wine this time because I agree that 2buckchuck might not go over. I think the patrons will understand it is for the support of the event too.
Also, if the fee is a around $4 to $5 or more we will raise more money and be able to eventually eliminate our participation fee.

We also offer a compliment of foods. Little yummy bites, and so that all costs money as well. But $2 or $4 bucks of an evening of free wine is a great deal. People should be thankful, and if they are rude ingrate we will throw them out on their arses!! 🙂

I don’t want to ask my patrons for more than $2, however. Besides, none of them are going to be prepared the first time around. Not everyone has their purses or wallets with them when they do the art walk.

I just had a conversation with Michele Roberson, the owner, and she feels very uncomfortable that we are in a sense nickel and dimeing our patrons.

This will be the last Art Walk that Grand Avenue Art Works! will actively participate in. It seems like far too much work, and not nearly enough fun.

I have no problem charging for wine, especaily if it keeps away the regular “cheese eaters” with strong body oder who don’t intend to ever buy anything and are only there for the free food and wine, although it is difficult to judge

Last comment from me on this subject: if you serve wine you must charge. That’s the law. Break it at your own risk. I don’t care.
For those who plan to serve wine and not break the law, it is only a matter of what to charge. I recommend it be $2 per glass, the same amount the Art Center charges. No stickers to purchase, no tickets. Just $2 per glass of wine.
The poll yielded 50% in favor of $2, 33% in favor of $6, and 16% Other. Since the Other remains an unknown, let’s go with $2 per glass.

Ok, we will charge $2 per glass after all. We will have pretty good wine so it’s a good deal, and I think if we just expain that we must charge to be in agreement with the law then people will understand, or they don’t have to buy any wine, they can just enjoy art and maybe music and some snacks. SO it’s pretty simple.

The Website is promoting the next ArtWalk as Dec. 14, instead of November 9. And the maps and press page still say September. This is confusing for those who visit the site. And do we need this wine debate still here for the public to see?

The last time I read the comments page, it had onlly been updated to Sept 8. I deleted my comments at the time that I realized that this “forum” was open for the general public to read. Totally unprofessional to post what I thought were comments shared with other galleries trying to sort out the restrictions, illegalities, etc., of trying to conduct business in an adult, hospitable manner. As for asking Moe for a refund, perhaps it might be better to ask him what became of the press releases, advertising other than in the PG Bulletin, and banners that only appear on 2 galleries.

Nothing new. Con_tractors have been working under the table for years.

More than a dozen unlicensed contractors who bid for work at a house in Pacific Grove on Thursday found themselves caught in a Contractors State License Board sting.

Triathlon? No Thanks Let Me Sleep

Letters From The Editor:

I would appreciate it if triathlon organizers would take into account that their event takes place smack dab in the middle of a town full of people who at 6:30 are probably asleep. If they must announce every step taken by every participant all morning long, they should start the event no earlier than 8.

Dang running ninnies disturbing the peace.

Dang locals, think that their right to peace before 8 AM should be upheld.
