Sustainable Truth – Michael Shaw to Speak in Santa Cruz

Pacific Grove is a member of ICLEI

Michael Shaw to Speak 06/10/09 7pm in Santa Cruz, CA

The Santa Cruz Freedom Forum invites you to a free event with Guest Speaker Michael Shaw, President of Freedom Advocates.

It is imperative for all of us to understand how the United Nations Sustainable Development /Agenda 21 program attacks our homes, family pocketbooks and ultimately our liberty at the local level. Shaw will demonstrate that Santa Cruz local government is a dues paying member of an Agenda 21 implementing NGO called ICLEI. ICLEI is committed to establishing the infrastructure to support the dawning of a global government. Over 500 other cities and counties are also direct policy implementers of the “visions” created by this same NGO. See the ICLEI member list here.

Come and meet with others. Join in to hear solutions!

This informative presentation with a question and answer period will be held at 7pm Wednesday June 10 at the Quaker Friends Meeting House 225 Rooney Street, Santa Cruz. See flier for details.

City Employees: You Can Be Replaced By Volunteers

Replacing workers with volunteers was in the plans all along!

City leaders are hoping to pass on Wednesday night the citywide program, in which college students can get valuable job experience while helping the city. The proposal deals more with office work and not hard manual labor.

“It’s a win win… when we first started talking about this (volunteer program) the economy wasn’t in the condition it’s in,” says Mayor Dan Cort.

Pollaci Sent To Jail

Pollacci In Chains

A Pacific Grove man accused of raping a woman in his father’s liquor store remained jailed Monday after a judge increased his bail for violating the terms of his release.

Judge Russell Scott elevated Thomas Pollacci’s bail from $300,000 to $400,000 after the GPS company hired by his defense lawyer to monitor him reported that Pollacci lingered 29 minutes too long in his church parking lot after Mass early Friday.

Prosecutor Cristina Johnson reported the violation to Scott and defense attorney Andy Liu before noon Friday. Scott ordered Pollacci to appear that afternoon and, despite protests that he had left the church on time, remanded him into custody in the courtroom pending a hearing Monday.

He’s back out on a larger bail amount and now free to prowl.

Free Speech At Risk In The Peoples Republic Of P.G.

Silence the infidels that’s the way, become the the imperial commander Dan Cort wants to be..
Welcome Comrade

In April, the City Council tabled a vote on a change in policy that would . . . require those who wanted to address the council to fill out speaker cards. Mayor Dan Cort said the council is seeking to streamline its meeting discussions.

Baby Abandonment At P.G. Firehouses OK’d

Less than 72 hours old may be surrendered at firehouses. Next year will they might start taking those over 72 years old as part of the Sustainable movement?

Pacific Grove is set to pass the resolution Wednesday night. Monterey signed off on it a few weeks ago. Once approved, all city firehouses will be designated as safe surrender sites.

State law says that no person will be prosecuted if they voluntarily drop off a newborn less than 72 hours after birth. Monterey Fire Chief Sam Mazza said firehouses offer a safe place with staff on duty 24 hours a day.

Bike Race Results – Mayor Still Hates Cars

The Butterfly Criterium returned to Pacific Grove after a 30-year absence. It featured 11 separate races of about 45 minutes.

Hundreds of spectators turned out to watch 250 cyclists compete for a purse of $4,000 cash and a $6,000 worth of prizes.

Pacific Grove Mayor Dan Cort said he understands that shutting down main streets to automobile traffic makes some business owners uncomfortable. But he said he doesn’t think catering only to car-reliant shoppers will contribute to the future vibrancy of the city.

Mayor Cort and his socialist sustainable agenda still wants us all to get rid of our cars. And live in yurts.

Pictures taken at about 1 O’clock. There was hardly any people except participants and vendors. Must have been 1 city worker per 20 people on the street. I call this a bust. Bring back the car shows.

Vibrant? No signs of vibrancy here. The start finish line.

It’s A Bicycle Race – Leave Your Kids And Dogs At Home

So says the barricades.

Racers will compete for a purse totaling $4,000 during nine separate hour-long races, starting at 7:30 a.m. Riders will race on a circular 0.7-mile course starting on Lighthouse Avenue, rounding the corner down Congress Avenue to Central Avenue and up Fountain Avenue back to Lighthouse.

The race is sanctioned by USA Cycling and sponsored by the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce and AT&T, in cooperation with the city of Pacific Grove.

Really, is this an advisement or advertisement? These barricades have been scattered all over downtown since Friday, and closing the street on a Sunday is hardly impacting. You could hold this event without closing the streets.

Watch Where Your Recycle Tax Money Goes

Humunya Foundation

How charming. Out of town “Community Activist” groups swoop in and provide an on-the-surface admirable service of removing those toxic electronics that just threaten to destroy the environment. Makes your legs tingle with substainable joy, don’t it?

I call BS. How do we know they are not offloading the waste to countries like Communist China that salvage anything valuable and leave the rest to rot in piles (click the headline credit for the 60 Minutes story)?

Buy a TV lately (come on admit it)? There was a “disposal fee” tacked on. This hidden tax goes to pay for safe disposal of older electronics and groups like the Humunya Foundation get reimbursed for what they collect. Kind of like giving your aluminum cans to the street people to cash in.

Please keep it local if you can. I recommend taking your e-waste to the Marina dump – err Environmental Park where the taxes are used for local jobs – not some out of town activist group..

Stupid Art Galleries – Paint A New Sign, Will Ya

While Pacific Grove lays claim to many family-friendly events – the Butterfly Parade, Good Old Days and Feast of Lanterns – when the sun goes down and the grown-ups want to make merry, P.G. is reliably an early-to-bedder.

But on special Friday nights, the tide turns in the town’s favor during the aptly named Wine, Art & Music Walk.

Oh, look! There are FOUR more galleries just up the street, right?

And that’s it. There is one former gallery or two. I lose count of ex galleries. Stupid artists, go back to Carmel..
