Carmel Walks Away With The Shoe
78 to 6!
There would be no freaky Friday this year; Carmel just had too many horses. And Pacific Grove shot itself in the foot too many times, giving up three fumbles and an interception in the first half that led to a 50-0 Carmel lead at intermission. That led to a running clock for the second half.

Measure J was close, but not close enough.
With all the votes counted, including the late ones and the questionable and damaged ballots, Monterey county Elections reports that Measure J, which would have funded our library with a $96 parcel tax, missed passage by a very scant margin.

I cannot support this or any other begging from the city until they show that they can manage what they have already.

City Massacres Butterfly Trees, Butterflies A No Show
There you go again, messing up Pacific Grove for the sake of the tourists.
“There was a concern that the trimming may have discouraged monarchs from coming to the grove,” said P.G. City Manager Tom Frutchey. “It’s a good hypothesis, but we don’t know the answer to it yet.”
The eucalyptus, which often shed limbs, were trimmed for the safety of visitors to the monarch grove sanctuary, Frutchey said.

Though California doesn’t allow a person to financially recover for emotional distress from the death of an animal, Ospina’s attorney contends a jury will see that her need for treatment is a result of the attack that killed her dog.
Ospina’s pain and suffering alone is worth $70,000, according to the documents. The dog attack forced Ospina to miss about 16 days of work, which cost her $8,184, an amount characterized as a “fraction of her salary.”
Crash On 68, Get To Da Choppa!
A 51-year-old Pacific Grove man received major injuries after he lost control of his 2004 Ford Taurus and crashed into two trees on Highway 68 about 5:50 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver was flown to San Jose Regional Medical Center.
Less than a mile away from CHOMP and the guy is airlifted to San Jose? And insurance cost goes up again.
There Are NIMBYs On My Block!
Canterbury cannot provide services to the homes it owns adjacent to the facility, but others on the block can hire gardeners, housekeepers, pizza delivery etc. What’s the difference?
I see CW providing jobs. Local jobs. And the NIMBYs on Spazier don’t approve.
Canterbury Woods owned a house at 612 Spazier for more than 30 years, according to its executive director, Norma Brambilla, and the resident did not receive services from the senior citizen complex.
After the occupant retired, Brambilla said, she was assured verbally by city officials that using the property for life-care senior housing was acceptable to the city and would not violate Canterbury Woods’ use permit or the city zoning ordinance, since the property was zoned for single-family residential use.
The Not In Big Sur Half Fast Marathon Closes Roads This Weekend
Some of the best-known streets in Monterey and Pacific Grove will be closed to traffic for two to four hours Saturday and Sunday mornings as runners participate in Big Sur Half Marathon events.
Saturday’s 3- and 5-kilometer runs affect a small section of Cannery Row from Prescott to David avenues in Monterey, plus Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove as far as Sea Palm Avenue near Lovers Point. The affected areas will be closed to traffic from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m
Hope they clean up after themselves better than that triathlon did.

Two fishermen were rescued Sunday morning after their boat capsized in rough waters off Asilomar Point.
One of the fishermen was injured as he was trying to get back to shore and was taken to a hospital; the other fisherman was treated on the scene.
