Pacific Grove’s annual community event will be April 10 to 11. Good Old Days will feature more than 240 vendors from 12 states displaying arts, crafts and other wares. There will also music, entertainment and 30 food booths at the street fair, the largest arts and crafts gathering in Monterey County.

A Pot Hicary Fail

Sure looked open with the sign in the window. Soon a “Sorry We’re Closed” sign appeared on the door. Then the Pot sign came down, and the closed sign was gone too. Can’t help that the person operating the store was arrested for shipping pot via UPS.

(Judge) Kingsley has ordered the dispensary’s operators to appear in court April 14 to explain why a long-term injunction against the store should not be issued. “The city is pleased the court responded so quickly to our request for immediate relief,” city attorney David Laredo said.

In January, Maniscalco applied for a business license from the city but it refused to issue him one. The city contends The Apothecary would violate a 45-day moratorium on the operation of marijuana dispensaries the city council passed Jan. 20.

P.G. Police Joins The Information Awareness Office

A plan for police to share information with other law enforcement agencies in the region was approved 5-2 by the Pacific Grove City Council on Wednesday after a discussion about whether participating in the exchange might violate privacy rights.

Police Chief Darius Engles asked that the city sign on to Urban Area Security Initiative, a program funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that provides a criminal database for the region.

Yeah, I feel safe…

From Wikipedia

The Information Awareness Office (IAO) was established by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in January 2002 to bring together several DARPA projects focused on applying surveillance and information technology to track and monitor “terrorists” and other asymmetric threats to national security, by achieving Total Information Awareness (TIA). This would be achieved by creating enormous computer databases to gather and store the personal information of everyone in the United States, including personal e-mails, social network analysis, credit card records, phone calls, medical records, and numerous other sources, without any requirement for a search warrant[1]. This information would then be analyzed to look for suspicious activities, connections between individuals, and “threats”[2]. Additionally, the program included funding for biometric surveillance technologies that could identify and track individuals using surveillance cameras, and other methods[2].

Local Pot Pusher Has A Felony Arrest Record?

A Pot Hicary

The owner is trying to win approval by helping to craft laws to allow marijuana sales. Seems that he needs to try and learn a few laws in existence.

If a pot store opens in P.G., lets find another seller. We don’t need another felon with a business do we?

Maniscalco, 26, is due in court at 9:15 a.m. Friday in Salinas for a preliminary hearing on a felony count of possessing and transporting marijuana for sale, stemming from an arrest in December by Monterey police for allegedly sending or receiving marijuana via UPS.

Maniscalco had proposed opening a medical marijuana dispensary in Sand City in September and one at 115 Central Ave. in Pacific Grove in February.

Destiny being fulfilled. Bankrupt the events that are the heart & soul of what’s fun about P.G. then turn it into some preachy politically correct show that no one really wants to go to. Finally bring it back all sanitized. About as genuine as a Victorian retreat house torn down, re-constructed with zero original material and awarded a historical artifact sign.

But hey, without the cost of putting on the week long summer festival, we can pay for a new website, city slogan and a tourist trolley, right?

There will still be a Queen Topaz and her court, but no fireworks. The pageant will take place in the middle school auditorium, not at the Lovers Point Pier. The festival will run two days, rather than a full week.

“Some events are being dropped,” said Feast of Lanterns president Sue Renz, “and others restructured.”

Now That All Problems In P.G. Are Solved, Lets Rewrite All The Laws

Old law about minorities not allowed to own property within the city. What strikes me is in the light of the pot club trying to open in P.G. is what other laws are being changed in the name of cleansing the town and re-writing history?

Such clauses can’t be enforced by law, but Councilwoman Lisa Bennett proposes that she and her colleagues send a letter to the Monterey County recorder asking that fees to delete such clauses entirely from deeds be waived.

Tough to imagine that there are still any unmolested homes in the retreat area that have not been torn down and replaced by re-creations by the likes of Juan The Builder.

Pacific Grove residents living in the town’s aging Victorian and Edwardian treasures who can’t afford to fix leaking plumbing, sparking electric wires and termite damage can get help from City Hall.

Pacific Grove has received federal Community Development Block Grant and state home improvement grant funding that it can draw from to help homeowners who qualify, said Laurel O’Halloran, housing program assistant for the city.

“We have some money to spend,” she said, and it must be used up during the next 18 months.
