Global Warming Kooks Meet At Asilomar

And try to ruin freedom as we know it through “alternate strategies”.

Not Saving The Planet

They released a joint press release Friday expressing “deep concern” over the limited efforts to reduce global emissions of greenhouse gases and calling for additional research to examine the need for “alternative strategies” to moderate future climate change.

Should Have Taken A Taxi

Douches like this should be banned from driving a car for LIFE. Ride the bus forever.

Cory Overton

Two Monterey police officers were injured early Thursday when an alleged drunken driver collided head-on with their patrol car near downtown.

Cory Overton, 21, of Marina, was arrested and charged with two felonies, including causing injury while driving impaired and for driving under the influence.

The Once A Year Passionfish Green Hoax

Lather, rinse, repeat. As long as this poof piece is reported every year, remember it’s about green in their wallets.

You should see the mountains of landfill-destined garbage and rubbish that this restaurant generates. Look at the grease encroaching the sidewalk leaking from their overflowing dumpster. See the other trash cans blocking the sidewalk. This “green” business practices is a farce.

Cindy, the daughter of a fisherman, serves on the advisory council for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and is a member of the Seafood Choices Alliance. During the past few years, she has been inducted into the California Restaurant Association’s Hall of Fame, been named a “California Woman of the Year” by state Assemblyman John Laird, and been among 10 finalists for the International Seafood Champion’s Award.

Buzzword For Broke: Unsustainable

What better crisis story to begin a push for yet more taxes? I’ll never vote for any tax increases as long as spending continues on follies like the ineffective Chamber Of Commerce or “ICLEI”, the Local Governments for Sustainability.

Budget ”unsustainable,” P.G. financial official says

Property tax revenues have remained steady, but sales and hotel room taxes are down, he said. Some recovery on those two sources of revenue is expected in fiscal 2012-13.

But by fiscal 2014-15, Becklenberg said, costs will begin outstripping revenues and the city will have to explore new sources of money.

Pot Smokers Protest On Lighthouse Ave

Standing in the street and on top of an old hippy VW. KSBW has several pictures on it’s site. Three out of the 5 are not even from Monterey. And one dog. They are not winning my sympathy.

Members of a Monterey cannabis club held a demonstration Monday afternoon, protesting a recent court order that prohibits them from dispensing medical marijuana at 554 Lighthouse Ave.

“We are trying to raise the public’s awareness in a positive manner,” Rowland said of the protest.

Tree Removal Reform

Remember the lady that Dan Cort called ‘moron’ over challenging the tree policy?

They argue that the city’s authority to regulate tree planting should be limited to the public spaces it owns and maintains: greenbelts and parks.

“From Eardley to First,” said resident Michael Clark, “is a solid hedge of trees. One of the treasures of the city is its views.”

Michael Clark is a bit blind – a low row of neatly trimmed oaks and one lopped eucalyptus fill the strip between those streets. Is Clark referring to the views of trees or the view from his vinyl clad windows?

Pollacci Rape Trial Delay – Now It’s The Court’s Overcrowding

Too many Pollaccis in court adding to the workload?

The trial for Thomas Pollacci was on hold Friday while Judge Russell Scott tries to finish one trial to make room for another. Pollacci was scheduled to begin trial Monday.

His son, Jordan Thomas Pollacci, 20, is facing a preliminary hearing Friday on charges he burglarized two residences near downtown Pacific Grove on Jan. 4 and Feb. 15. He is being held in Monterey County Jail in lieu of $80,000. That preliminary hearing will likely be delayed. Liu is defending father and son.

MyCaregiver Not Open, Not Selling Pot

Pot Club Closed

The group that opened a medical marijuana dispensary at 554 Lighthouse Ave. in Monterey will keep its center open as a meeting place for current members of their cooperative, said a member who answered the door Thursday.

The member, who identified himself only as Marc, said the court order issued March 12 against the cooperative, MyCaregiver Inc., prohibits only operation of a medical marijuana dispensary at the location.

No pot sales? It’s all in the perception of the law, after all they called it “Health care Cooperative/Individual & Family Services” when it opened.

P.G. Police Joins The Information Awareness Office

A plan for police to share information with other law enforcement agencies in the region was approved 5-2 by the Pacific Grove City Council on Wednesday after a discussion about whether participating in the exchange might violate privacy rights.

Police Chief Darius Engles asked that the city sign on to Urban Area Security Initiative, a program funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that provides a criminal database for the region.

Yeah, I feel safe…

From Wikipedia

The Information Awareness Office (IAO) was established by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in January 2002 to bring together several DARPA projects focused on applying surveillance and information technology to track and monitor “terrorists” and other asymmetric threats to national security, by achieving Total Information Awareness (TIA). This would be achieved by creating enormous computer databases to gather and store the personal information of everyone in the United States, including personal e-mails, social network analysis, credit card records, phone calls, medical records, and numerous other sources, without any requirement for a search warrant[1]. This information would then be analyzed to look for suspicious activities, connections between individuals, and “threats”[2]. Additionally, the program included funding for biometric surveillance technologies that could identify and track individuals using surveillance cameras, and other methods[2].
