Monarchs To Be Put On Endangered List

Follow The ButterfliesProbably can’t afford the rent.

“Ever scene we started monitoring the butterflies, what we have noticed is a steep decline in the number; an over 95% drop,” said Community Science Coordinator at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History Natalie Johnston.

Wednesday afternoon a swarm of Monarchs were fluttering throughout the sanctuary in Pacific Grove, but Johnston says there’s a number of reasons for their population drop.

“One of [the reasons] is habitat loss and in their northern ground where they migrate too,” said Johnston. “Another is pesticides, and then there is climate change, witch is impacting all creators.”

You sho gun…

According to police, Giuseppi Abbruzzetti crawled through a bedroom window while holding a sheathed sword and started to walk down David Avenue before officers had to deploy pepper spray in the suspect’s face and five 40MM sponge rounds. They say that the rounds struck Abbruzzetti, which made him drop his sword before he was taken to the ground and then arrested.

Pacific Grove Police Department announced Tuesday that at approximately 11:40 a.m., there were reports of a transient person–identified as Todd Fields, 37, of Lancaster–trespassing on the Pacific Grove High School campus.

Police say that staff responded immediately by contacting the person, who then proceeded to threaten the staff member. School staff said that they didn’t see any weapons on the person but 911 was still called.

Staff said they continued to monitor the suspect by following him until PGPD officers responded from the area of Sunset Dr. and Congress Ave.

Does Traffic Safety Mean Removing Crosswalks?

Don’t cross at Pine Avenue at Fountain, go find another. Sure, detour to 15th street? Kids are not going to do that.

pine ave RHD

The city is expected to hear a report from the traffic engineer who believes it was the right call to remove a crosswalk students would normally use.

He says it’s safer, but parents say otherwise.

Three crosswalks were previously consolidated into one crosswalk at Pine Avenue and 15th street, but there is debate that three is safer.

“They have to go way out of their way to cross at a safe spot and I know some middle schoolers aren’t going to do that,” Sally Jones a resident of Pacific Grove said. “It just makes sense to put it back the crosswalk.”

According to the person filming, Evan Brodsky, these orcas had just finished feeding on sea lions earlier that day. “They were spy hopping, breaching, pec-and-tail slapping and just very social and surface active!” Brodsky told KION. “The youngsters were chasing each other, and the group were rolling together with lots of touching.”

Not Just Speed, Tina Nieto Parks In Handicap Spot

Even IF Nieto was transporting disabled parent that WOULD have disabled parking permits, why are county resources being used to give rides to employees’ family?

Monterey County Sheriff seen parked in a handicap spot

A photo obtained by KION shows the county work car that Monterey County Sherriff Tina Nieto drives parked in a handicap zone. This photo was taken on July 14, 2024 on Lincoln Avenue.

The photo was taken just days after KION reported that Sheriff Nieto was pulled over at least three times for speeds over 90 mph by the CHP in King City.

We have reached out to the Sheriff for comment, and a spokesperson for the Sheriff told KION that Nieto has a handicap placard because she drives her parents around sometimes.

Sheriff Nieto’s office stated that her parents were in the car that day and then rode in the golf cart with her during the parade. Witnesses tell KION that they did not see the Sheriff’s parents in the car.

Sheriff Tina Nieto And Her Dangerous Driving Style

Tina Nietos Need For Speed

CHP pops her three times and every time “professional courtesy” lets her go.

In the first dash cam video, the CHP officer pulls over Nieto after he said she passed him at a speed of 95 miles per hour.

“You were in and out of traffic [inaudible] to about 90 okay,” said the officer in the video. “No worries, we’re just, obviously going to give you a warning but ah, just make sure you slow down a little bit and just be a little more cognizant.”

The officer tells the sheriff to drive safely before walking back to his vehicle.

March 2024
In this incident, video shows the officer telling Sheriff Nieto he was pulling her over for her speed of around 95 miles per hour and said she passed another CHP vehicle traveling at 92 miles per hour.

CHP Officer: Were you running code 3?

Nieto: They haven’t upgraded my vehicle yet.

CHP Officer: Alright, so I’m not going to issue you a citation. This is the second time I stopped you for your speed. Umm, I don’t know what it’s going to take to slow down but… Next time if you’re obviously speeding and you’re not going to an emergency, it’s going to be a little different, okay?

The officer emphasized to Nieto he wanted to make sure she and everyone else on the road was able to get where they needed to be safely before he walked back to his patrol car.

May 2024
During the traffic stop in May, video shows the officer asking Sheriff Nieto for her license. Nieto responded by asking to speak with a supervisor.
