Chautauqua Hall History

Social conditions, however, were changing. Radio entered the scene and could be listened to at home, never mind static on the station. Community events were giving ground to the flapper era. Attendance at the Chautauqua events dwindled. After the 1926 season, the doors closed. . .

. . In 1921, the Boy Scouts of Pacific Grove were assured a home in perpetuity. Chautauqua Hall’s title, however, was signed over to the City of Pacific Grove with instructions to make the building available for purposes other than scouting

Has it become politically incorrect to proudly display the presence of BSA Troop 90? There used to be a Boy Scouts Fleur de Lis symbol on the door.

Save Us, Tidepool Police, There Are Naked Men On The Rocks

Call the Tidepool Police! Cannot have this spoiling the beauty of the rocks.

On February 5, a female went to the police department and reported that a Hispanic male adult between the ages of 25-35 exposed himself at the Asilomar turnout near Acropolis Avenue. The suspect was standing on the rocks near the surf line. He left the area in a metallic teal colored coupe with a spoiler, bearing a partial California plate number 5BFO.

Dogs And Their Owners – Crazy?

Driving to a place to walk the dog. Kind of like taking an escalator to the gym.

Congress Ext

Over the past three years, the public has been illegally parking and driving in the fire lane area at the Congress Avenue entrance to Rip Van Winkle Open Space.

They have also been parking along the road and driving over tree roots. Alternate access to the open space can only be gained by paying a fee ($9.50) to enter the Country Club Gate to Pebble Beach, or parking in the Methodist Church parking lot on Sunset Drive and fording a gulley.
According to the dog walkers, many of whom are older people with constrained walking abilities, these other options are not workable.

Still Ugly, Those Urban Newsboxes Just As Easy To Rob

News Rack Crime

A pair of unknown subjects were spotted in the act of vandalizing newspaper boxes. The suspects are believed to be in their forties. They wore dark clothing and were shaggy in appearance. The men were not apprehended. Later, an informant called in to say that several racks had been broken into in the area of 13th Street and Congress Avenue. Considerable damage was done to the boxes in both locations. An estimated $50 to $200 was missing from each box.

What’s Better For Downtown Than A Wine Walk (with Art)?

It’s the Rats To Riches car shows. Too bad there was no support from the Chamber Of Commerce, the city leaders and the few shops that are actually open when the show blocked the street. Don’t think they will be back, they are not haughty enough to be allowed in P.G.

“The venues and the shops that were open were great,” said Page. “We loved going to the show and then going to the restaurants. We had one PG business tell us they were one cheeseburger away from closing for good until we showed up. And then it was standing room only.”

Page said the club wanted to extend the show’s scope, but got no local support for the idea. “We got lots of promises, but no action” from the Chamber of Commerce. “A small hot-rod display like this is not static. It’s more of a lifestyle with music, things to do for kids, interaction with the vehicles, raffle prizes, etc. More of a festival than a gallery,” he said.

Ha ha, more of a festival than a gallery. Look around at all the damn elitist art galleries that are open about 20 hours a week . .
