Grove Market owner Charlie Higuera said he lost $80,000 during the course of the construction work because customers went to other local markets to buy groceries.

“That’s big time,” Higuera said.

And, he said, the Grove Market customers he’s spoken to are underwhelmed with the new intersection.

“Everybody I’ve talked to so far, they say ‘I can’t believe it, is that what they did?’” Higuera said.

. . the grand opening ceremony on April 10 will feature Pacific Grove Mayor Bill Kampe driving a car through the intersection as well as speakers, music and light refreshments, according to the city.

Lighthouse & Forest Avenue’s New Look Leaves Many Underwhelmedd

Le Normandie Ihors de l’entreprise

Kick ’em while they are down.

Normandie

Le Normandie in Pacific Grove abruptly shut down two weeks ago, leaving many in the community confused as to why.

The Lighthouse Avenue restaurant in the Holman Building was owned by Christine and Francis Richard — previous owners of now- shuttered Chez Christine in Carmel and Bistro Christine in Monterey — and family friend Nancy Lewis.

“We’re done opening restaurants,” Christine Richard said Thursday. “… I’ve had it.”

Landlord Nadir Agha (who knows a thing or two about lies)

Agha said he made the decision to kick out the owners after he said he found out Christine Richard was lying about the sale of her mother’s home in France — money she allegedly told him she would use to buy the restaurant.

“She still owes us the $40,000,

Here’s a Moe Quote to add to the list of Stupid Things Moe Says:

Ammar believes the Richards are unethical and said in his 20 years with the chamber he has not witnessed “such bad business dealings” as he has with the pair.

Are Public Comments At The Council Meetings Being Moved?

Most interesting part of the meetings, IMO

The council also will consider whether changes are needed in the “norms and protocols” for council interaction with the public.

City Manager Thomas Frutchey says in a report the issue may need review given “considerable frustration and anger” expressed by small groups of residents over issues like fast-food restaurants and pensions.

Colossus Of . . . Bronze?

Statue of John Steinbeck coming to Cannery Row

The Cannery Row Co., which has already won preliminary approval for the sculpture in Steinbeck Plaza, returns to the city Architectural Review Committee on Wednesday for a final review.

The proposed statue would be about 14 feet high, with near life-sized figures seated at various levels around the simulated granite rock. The rock would be fashioned out of molded gunite.

Pacific Grove Targeted By More Con Artists

Common sense sinks to new lows – if it’s not the “help dad, I am in a Turkish jail” scam now we have people calling with threats of arrest if you don’t wire them money . .

Police say they’ve received reports of men or women with East Indian or similar accents who have called potential victims identifying themselves as officials with the Attorney General, California Highway Patrol or other law enforcement entities.

The scammers say that the victim is a suspect in fraud, tax evasion, or other criminal activity, and demand money be sent or criminal charges will be filed against them.

Over in Monterey, the police blotter reports that someone did in fact sent $25,000. Wonder what made her feel that she was being arrested for.

3/8/13 Victim on Via Ladera, was contacted by a woman via phone, identifying herself as a DEA agent. The woman told the victim there were agents waiting down the street to execute a search and arrest warrant unless she wired money to the Dominican Republic. Loss is $2,500 cash.

Are Morons in charge?

Stockton

The city of nearly 300,000 people has become emblematic of government excess and the financial calamity that resulted when the nation’s housing bubble burst.

Its salaries, benefits, and borrowing were based on anticipated long-term developer fees and increasing property tax revenue. But those were lost in a flurry of foreclosures beginning in the mid-2000s and a 70 percent decline in the city’s tax base

Pacific Grove’s Runaway Mayor wrote a whole book about taking vacant business buildings and turning them into government offices in Stockton. Buy the book, you may learn some lessons in it like more government waste may not be good.
