P.G. Beaches Attracting Salinas Gangs

Whether to avoid the cops who know they’re violating probation or to hang out without fear of attack by rivals, gang members from other Monterey County cities are being spotted more and more in Pacific Grove and Carmel.

“This is not an area where they need to constantly watch their backs. They’ll drink alcohol and go to the beach with their girlfriends,” said PGPD Lt. Tom Uretsky. “They come to P.G. because in many cases it’s considered neutral territory by the Salinas gangs.”

And police say locals should beware: A volatile situation can easily ignite if warring gang members find themselves on the same stretch of sand.

I do not shop at stores that support gangs. If there is gang graffiti on the walls, I stay away. If the workers look anything like a gang member or even imitate the look and behavior I stay away. Hear that Northridge Mall? Safeway? ATC?

Mountain Lion Or Housecat?

Lion Layin

“There have been five sightings in the past week,” reported Paul Jeung, who works as a starter for the golf course.
Jeung said the mountain lion was seen on the back nine, which wraps around the lighthouse, and was described as “pretty small, about 100 pounds.”

Several of the sightings have been discounted by P.G. police officers. One “lion” turned out to be a large house cat and another, reported on Jewell Avenue near Sunset Drive, was described as “two feet long,” too small to be anything but a new cub.

Carmel Student Caught With Gun On Campus

Action is being taken after a gun and ammunition were seized from a 15-year-old Carmel High School student.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Department confiscated the .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol at school on Wednesday, along with 33 rounds of ammunition. No one was hurt.

According to investigators, the gun belongs to the Carmel student’s guardian — a grandparent. The student has been suspended and will be expelled, according to officials. Both he and his guardian could face criminal charges.

And this wasn’t an isolated incident. Less than a month ago, a boy brought a gun to Pacific Grove Middle School. The gun belonged to his guardian — a Seaside police officer.
