Parcel Tax School Projects Making DMC Rich

Construction is being completed on a number of projects affecting every school in the district, said Superintendent Ralph G mez Porras. All schools will open on time and campuses will be safe for students, he said.

The projects, financed by the $42 million Measure D bond approved by district voters in 2006, will finish much of the work begun after passage of the 2003 Measure A parcel tax, said assistant superintendent Robin Blakley.

When we were being sold a parcel tax for schools, it was all about warm feel good projects like books and supplies for the children. What we got was teacher furloughs and things I don’t think are so important.

“In this economic climate, our teachers felt strongly that no one should be laid off, and that preserving programs and services for our students was a top priority,” association co-president Linda Goulet said.

She said “a strong majority” of members supported taking the furlough days to save their colleagues’ jobs. The furlough days will be scheduled on what would have been paid staff-development days, Goulet said.

Isn’t it odd that we cannot pay the teachers but can have $7,000,000 football stadiums and who knows how much $$ school parking lots?

P.G. School District – Tax, Spend, Beg, Tax, Spend

Lather, rinse, repeat. Odd that they spend the money on all things except books & supplies to teach our precious fry. Well at least we can play football on artificial grass.

If there were ever a monument to how local public entities waste taxpayers’ money, it is the Pacific Grove Unified School District’s use of the $42 million in Measure D tax revenues.

This money was designated for classroom and school facility repair and construction. Even though the existing stadium was adequate, $6.5 million of this money, 15 percent of all available Measure D funds, was used to build a state-of-the-art shrine to Jockdom under the euphemism of “stadium reconstruction.”

Bad Teachers Cry Over Pink Slips

The state Department of Education estimates that by Friday, 26,000 school workers will have received preliminary pink slips, more than twice as many job warnings as were issued last year.

Because of California’s less-than-rosy economic outlook, K-12 schools are trying to absorb more than $8 billion in state funding cuts.

Many, if not most, of the jobs could be saved by June if voters approve a spending package in a special election in May. Federal stimulus money could also help.

Federal Stimulus Money – fancy buzzword for MORE OF MY TAX DOLLARS after more of my tax dollars.

I’d willingly support better wages for California teachers – if they would do their job.

Why do California teachers have the highest wage in the country . . .

Measure X – Pacific Grove Schools Begging For More Money

In 2003, voters approved Measure A, a parcel tax used to assist with the funding of the programs currently in place but that is due to expire. Measure X is an extension of the existing parcel tax and will not raise property taxes. Without Measure X, many of these programs will need to be reduced or eliminated.

So there’s $6,000,000 for a new stadium

And we have $1,700,000 to replace the school district offices (which would end up being good enough for students)

Before voting to keep sending them more money, ask where they get all the millions for these things?

Teachers Union Dues – Where They Go

For or against it is a personal choice, but what does this have to do with education, or the advancement & support of teachers?

Labor unions are no longer relevant to labor. They exist only to give the union administrators a paycheck, and money into political campaigns.

California’s largest teacher’s union has given another $1 million to defeat a Nov. 4 ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.

The contribution recorded Tuesday makes the California Teachers Association the largest institutional donor to the No on 8 campaign. CTA also gave $250,000 in August to Equality for All, a coalition of gay advocacy and civil rights groups opposing Proposition 8.

They are too busy being taught to be vegans.

A non-profit program called Farm To School is promoting healthy eating habits in school. The program partners with local farms, parents and school cafeterias to make eating fruits and vegetables the norm in a child’s diet.

Stupid people are put in charge . .

The former principal of Greenfield Elementary School was charged Friday with possession of child pornography, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, animal neglect and resisting a peace officer.

(Raul) Herrera happened to arrive home during the search and an officer approached him. Herrera made a move and the officer believed was reaching for a gun, which led to a short struggle, according to police reports. Officers allegedly found a small amount of cocaine in one of Herrera’s socks.

Why Union School District Employees Need More $$$

Pay them more so they don’t have to steal taxpayers’ gas.

Salinas police said they arrested Alisal Union School District worker Victoria Ponce, 62, and her husband Juan Ortega, 58, Monday morning for stealing from district gas pumps multiple times.

The district superintendent said Ponce was a long-time district employee who was busted by people she works with.

“Today, she submitted her letter resigning from the district,” Alisal Union Superintendent Dr. Esperanza Zendejas said.

Ponce worked in the transportation department as both a dispatcher and sometimes bus driver she’s even been a local school union president.

“She’s a past CSEA president of our bargaining unit here,” Zendejas said.

Followup – 11/14/08, both Ponce & Ortega pleaded guilty.

Victoria Ponce, a former district employee, pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement and was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

A teacher at Schallenberger Elementary School in San Jose is on leave pending further investigation into reports that she was “intoxicated while in a classroom,” according to police and school officials.

According to police, when the teacher arrived at school Friday morning, her colleagues became concerned that she was inebriated. Her fellow teachers notified school officials, who in turn called San Jose police. Officers who interviewed the teacher did not detect any obvious smell of alcohol but noticed the woman had slurred speech and was stumbling. The woman was given a chemical test and registered more than twice the legal limit of .08, according to police.
