In a Nov. 4 Herald article, “Four more years met with joy, ire” I was quoted responding to a question about the difference between how California votes and how the country at large votes. My answer, possibly too flip, was however the result of my frustration over the number of people who cast a vote having been poorly informed or misled about the Bush administration’s failures and deflections, coupled with a feeling of pride about California’s higher education system and our well-informed electorate. I can understand why some readers coming across my quote misunderstood my intentions.

California also chose a Republican Governor. Put the foot back and shut the heck up.

Sam Farr was quoted in The Herald on Nov. 4th as saying, “I think if the rest of the country had invested in higher education like California, you would have had a more educated electorate and a California outcome in the rest of the country.”

Does Farr really believe that the majority of voters in the so called “red states” are undereducated and stupid? I wonder how his colleagues on both sides of the aisle would react to such a demeaning remark.

Then again maybe his attitude is reflected in the fact that Farr carries little clout and has no real impact on any major congressional committees.

The county’s congressman, Democrat Sam Farr, essentially blamed Bush’s victory on the status of the education system nationwide.

“I think if the rest of the country had invested in higher education like California, you would have had a more educated electorate and a California outcome in the rest of the country,” said Farr, who easily won re-election Tuesday.

Farr said the election left “nothing changed” in Washington, with Republican control of both houses of Congress and the White House.

How the country will fare, he said, “all depends on the way President Bush decides to govern. If he wants to do as he did the last four years, I see a very contentious Congress. If he tries to reconcile the country, everybody will try to get behind him.”

Sam The Sham Farr Calls Michael Moore His Hero

Walking up Independence Avenue, it is pointed out to Farr that the querulous filmmaker Michael Moore is standing on the next corner with a camera crew and a microphone.

Farr barrels across First Street and right into Moore’s sour mug. “How’s my hero?!” Farr asks.

Moore, with his typical hunched-down head and glum expression, tells Farr, “We’re not looking for guys like you, if you get my drift.”

Ignoring the invitation to scram, Farr lays it on thick for the camera. He runs the show for a few minutes and introduces himself to a Marine that Moore has with him.

Farr walks away from Moore unscathed. In fact, he is beaming. He says he’d just as soon have gone into filmmaking as a young man if he’d known about it.

Sam Farr is a career politician son of a career politician. He has not had to work a day in his life. He’d have never made it as a filmmaker.
