On Wednesday, the PG. City Council gave the owners of Hops & Fog at 511 Lighthouse Ave. the green light to build a so-called bulb-out — essentially an extension of the sidewalk to accommodate outdoor dining. The council voted 6-0 to issue an encroachment permit to the restaurant. The reconfiguration, according to a rendering provided to the city, would eliminate one parking space in front of the restaurant. All construction costs and permit fees will be paid for by Hops & Fog.

AN EARLY-MORNING blaze at a brewpub in Pacific Grove late last week caused property damage but did not injure anyone, officials said this week.
On Sept. 19 at about 2:20 a.m., Monterey Fire Department responded to an incident at Hops & Fog Brewing Co. at 511 Lighthouse Ave. The building has a residential apartment upstairs from the restaurant. An employee called 911 to report the fire.

As the town becomes less of a residential town and more of a “destination”. But it’s never like a business applies for a permit to serve alcohol and play loud live music and expand to the sidewalk and street. It’s always a foot in the door then a gradual change.

Hops and Fog Brewing Co. owner Mike Durrant is part of downtown Pacific Grove’s nighttime renaissance from a sleepy business district to a place where music flows regularly from small bands or DJs. It’s attracting new patrons—and their wallets— to the city.

“We’re changing. The town is coming to life for the first time ever,” Durrant says, adding that the music is drawing people from all over the county looking for entertainment.

While Durrant has good relationships with nearby Hops and Fog neighbors, other business owners he partners with for events have struggled with noise complaints. In the last six months there have been at least 12 code enforcement complaints related to downtown music, according to P.G. City Manager Matt Mogensen.

We want to get you all caught up on a small brewery coming to Pacific Grove. About 3 years ago we started the process to open a small brewery on Lighthouse in Pacific Grove. We had an enormous amount of community support and we were so grateful to see that we had a good backing to get us through the permitting and We purchased the old Laundromat on Lighthouse Ave and that is where we learned that opening a small brewery in a historical area is not such a simple process. Fast forward 3 years and construction has begun on Hops and Fog Brewing formerly
