There are many stores that charge just $1 for most items, but the metropolitan area now has a store where everything on the shelves is free.
The first Free Store opened Saturday in Lee’s Summit and operators said they hope the public will help them make an impact.
The store is filled with clothes, coats and toys of all sizes.
Members of Heaven’s Gate Gospel Church collected donations to stock the shelves and they hope they can serve at least 500 families this season.

Officials said the funding they had to cover rent and utility expenses ends this month.
“It is sad to have to close, but it is awesome to know that we helped so many families during Christmas and during this extreme cold weather. We have helped so many families in the past three months with clothes, food, toys, and household items … everything. The need is great and the community has responded with items to be given away,” said Brenda Lang, one of the directors of the store.
