Artists Unclear Of Concepts

Burglars broke into First Night Monterey’s Archer Park Community Center headquarters Tuesday night, robbing the small nonprofit that stages the city’s ambitious and art-heavy New Year’s Eve celebration of their Mac computer and external hard drives.

“To break in and rob us … of our artwork, desktop publishing and the two external hard drives which were the backups…it’s all gone.

Concept #1 – Thieves do not care if it’s a Mega-Corporation, a working person, or an artiste. They will steal anything they can.

Concept #2 – Don’t store you backups in the same place as the computer. In a fire, flood or yes even theft, your backups are only as safe as the computer. Keep your back ups off site.

Cops Catch BB Gun Vandals

Every so often you read about (or become the victim of) people that cruise around shooting out car windows. Looks like this one didn’t get away.

Three 18-year-old Pacific Grove men face misdemeanor vandalism, assault and conspiracy charges after a pellet-shooting spree in Monterey, a police spokesman said Friday.

A 17-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man in the truck were released, Taylor said. Two pellet rifles were found in the suspects’ truck, he said.

Police identified the suspects as Abraham Ruiz, Blake Andrews and Ian Hesse.

Downtown Burglars Strike Again

In Letters To The Editor, Jane Roland Writes

I manage the Animal Friends Rescue Project Treasure Shop in Pacific Grove on 17th Street. On May 8, I went into the store as usual shortly before 10 a.m. After the preliminaries involved with preparing for the day, a customer arrived. I removed the cover from the cash register and discovered the drawer open and the money gone. The machine was broken and the keys taken. Everyone was alerted, the police were called and business resumed. The next day the same thing occurred. While it is considered a break-in, all of the locks were changed and further precautions were taken.

Not a new MO. There was a gang of teens burglarizing businesses at one time.

Parolee Busted For Burglary In P.G.

Nyunt just told everyone we don’t lock our doors. Great.

They learned he was Jorge Gonzalez, a Seaside parolee whose prior convictions include burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

Nyunt reported Gonzalez’s car contained numerous items that appeared to have been stolen, including cell phones, a GPS unit and a compressor. “We’re still trying to identify the victims,” he said. Gonzalez also allegedly possessed burglary tools, and Nyunt said he had been rummaging through boxes stored in the carport when the officer first spotted him.

“Individuals know that communities such as Pacific Grove and Carmel are considered a safe haven, and people don’t lock their doors,” Nyunt said, adding that residents persist in believing, “This is not going to happen here.”

Winos Attract Crime?

At least it stays in Carmel. Guess there are no paintings or wine worth stealing in P.G.

Carmel police are trying to solve what they are calling a bizarre robbery at a cheese shop in Carmel Plaza.

Police said thieves cut a hole in the drywall to enter the shop. Once inside, they went after specific targets that included rare, collectible wines

Pacific Grove Artwalk did say that paintings and wine go together.

Carmel’s art galleries attract crime, now the wine boutiques join the victim list.
