Pacific Grove police stopped a car in the 500 block of Lighthouse Avenue at 11:38 p.m. that matched the description of a vehicle wanted by the Monterey Police Department in connection with a series of auto burglaries that occurred earlier Tuesday evening.

Officers said they found GPS units, cell phone accessories, sunglasses, a portable television, a screw driver, pliers and large canister of illegal pepper spray inside the car. Officers also smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, police said.

Monterey police who went to the scene took Octavio Castillo, 18, Kevin Melcho, 18 and two juveniles into custody.

Even if you lock things up, scum may cause damage costing more to repair than the lost item.

Almost a dozen victims reported thefts and burglaries to P.G. police between Dec.14 and 20, with the bulk of them — nine — occurring the night of Dec. 15 or the morning of Dec. 16. Eight of those vehicles were unlocked, according to police, and the ninth had its convertible cover cut.

In addition, thieves stole computers, a phone system and keys from the Anton Inn on Dec. 3, someone took a television from a rental property on Dec. 18, and a suspect tried to break into a Lighthouse Avenue business Dec. 19 or 20 but failed to get through the window or the back door. Nyunt said parolees, drug addicts and gang members are hitting his city and other Peninsula locations, because they know the prey is easy.

After several blocks, the Blazer abruptly stopped in the middle of the road.

Three men exited the sports utility vehicle and fled.

At 4:47 p.m., police found one suspect, Manuel Rodriguez Hernandez, 18, of Seaside, hiding between two parked cars near Laurel Avenue and 1st Street.

At 6:27 p.m., Monterey Police found the suspected driver of the Blazer, Francis Geovanni Ruiz Perez, 18, also of Seaside, walking on the Recreation Trail near the 200 block of Hannon Street.

While everyone watches coyotes or mountain lions, stupid gang members are stealing property from our cars…

Three suspected car burglars ditched their Chevy Blazer in the middle of a Pacific Grove street and ran from the officer who had been chasing them early Sunday morning, police found one of them hiding between two parked cars in Pacific Grove, the second walking on the recreation trail, and the third in his Seaside apartment, PGPD Cmdr. John Nyunt said Wednesday.

Nyunt said the suspects appear to be affiliated with the Norteno gang, due to a T-shirt one was wearing and a five-point star tattooed on another. The shirt, which Rodriguez was wearing inside out, bore the word, “Norteno,” and listed all the area codes in which the gang has a presence.

If you lock the doors, one burglar may move on. Or the may put a rock through the window to steal an iPod.

In an effort to catch burglars in the act, Pacific Grove police officers, using unmarked cars, recently staked out areas in the city where vehicle burglaries and thefts have occurred.

“We have been able to do some surveillance programs in direct response,” Miller said.

One of the stings netted the arrest of a Pacific Grove man who was going car to car and checking door handles, trying to find an unlocked vehicle, Miller said.

. .
The prosecutor said it wasn’t clear what triggered the crimes.

Just stupid, that’s the reason.
