Pacific Grove police said a boy reported that a man tried to lure him into a car Wednesday by offering him candy.
The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. near Robert Down School when a man in a blue two-door Honda Civic pulled up alongside the child. The boy ran to the school office and police were called.
Officers said they searched the area but were unable to find the car or the man. The man is described as about 40 years old with black spiked hair and a goatee.
Letters From The Editor: Green Is The New Red
In the guise of being “green,” “modern” and “forward-thinking,” Pacific Grove’s government seems to be promulgating some of the same ideas used in the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. Everything old is “bad,” everything new is “good.” Throw out everything that has been done in the past, ignore long-standing committees and organizations, fire knowledgeable city employees, or force them to leave, and then try to totally remake Pacific Grove’s institutions. The Cultural Revolution was a complete disaster. I hope Pacific Grove doesn’t follow in China’s footsteps.

It’s Sunday. Don’t tick off shoppers that see all the “Open” signs and stop by when you are CLOSED.

Might have been a good Sunday to be open. I found a better store anyway.

Seahorses In, Jellyfish Out At Fish Jail
After bringing elegance to the halls of the Aquarium for seven years, the jellyfish exhibit is calling it quits.
Today was the final day to catch the nebulous lifeforms of the sea on display because Aquarium officials said it was time for a change, as most exhibits are rotated after a two year stint.

Deborah King Has At Least 5 Prior DUI Convictions
At least five convictions? How many have fallen off the record? How many have been reduced to “wet reckless”? Dang, she has had a problem for a long time. There is no excuse as to why this woman should not have been behind bars when this occurred. 50 years for her, one big fat lawsuit against her.

“In 2nd degree murder, you act with reckless disregard for human life,” explained deputy district attorney Steve Somers, who reported Deborah King has at least five prior DUI convictions. “If you can establish that the person was aware that driving under the influence is dangerous, and that they were under the influence and, knowing the dangers involved, went driving anyway and killed someone, you can establish it was murder.”
The vehicular manslaughter charge stems from her allegedly reckless behavior, and King faces a sentence of 15 years to life for each count if convicted, Somers said.

Shark Takes After Gandhi, Hunger Strike Means Release
Get out of fish jail free!
A great white shark that didn’t have an appetite in captivity was released back to ocean waters Sunday from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
The shark, a 4-foot, 55.5-pound female, fed only one time during its 11-day stay at the aquarium despite an array of food choices and feeding techniques, an aquarium spokesman said.
The shark, which went on display Aug. 27, was still swimming and navigating well, but aquarium animal-care experts didn’t want to risk endangering its health, spokesman Ken Peterson said.

Spazier street residents fight back!

A letter sent to Canterbury Woods Executive Director Norma Brambilla last month from senior city planner Lynn Burgess advised that the residences at 612 and 664 Spazier Ave. and the duplex at 872-874 19th St. violated the retirement home’s use permit.
The letter was triggered by complaints from residents on Spazier, and an investigation by city officials showed the permit violation, Burgess said.
The houses, originally used for employees, have been owned for 30 years by Canterbury Woods, Brambilla said.
The same services provided to residents of the main facility — cooking, laundry, cleaning and landscaping — had been extended to the houses all that time, she said.
