P.G. City Budget – $29,000,000
With fires and $5/g gas, it’s not shaping up to be a big tourist year. It’s smart to not be all Sandy-ish and start spending like a gold digger.
Pacific Grove’s $29 million fiscal 2008-09 budget got final approval late Wednesday by unanimous vote of the City Council.
The council has set the city machine’s financial carburetor on lean. Pacific Grove anticipates general fund revenues of $15.7 million, including new revenues of $630,000 and general fund expenditures of $15.2 million, with the balance going to build up city reserves.
Total expenditures for the coming year are expected to reach $24.8 million, including general fund spending and expenditures of money earmarked for special purposes.

Speaking of city leaders and funny money, Squid’s not sure what to make of former-and-would-be-future Pacific Grove city councilwoman Susan Goldbeck.
Recently, after repeated demands, the Weekly sales department received a long-overdue check for a Backpage ad– for a whopping $140. A few days later a notice from the bank arrived, saying the account is closed.

I had stumbled across the Fat Cat in Monterey previously and that is the only way I knew this Fat Cat was also a restaurant. The Fat Cat near 17-mile drive was in what used to be a trailer park, but it served some of the best squid omelets you could ever want to taste. Yes, I had strange taste in those days.

When Styrofoam Is Outlawed . .
The replacement solutions become the problem. Wrap take-out in foil and that gets washed into the storm drains where marine life either eat it and die or at least get disturbed the the galvanic reactions.
Next on the list of things to be ignorant about – aluminum foil. It’s not about the item, it’s human behavior that needs to be addressed.

Glass Bottom Boat Replica Installed
Looks like a lion in it’s cage, all chained up . .
A replica of the glass-bottom swan boats that once plied the shallows around Lovers Point in Pacific Grove has been put on display there by the Pacific Grove Heritage Society.
The swan boat was christened the Margruss, after Margaret and Russell Sprague.
The project was financed by $14,000 in donations to the society, Honegger said. The Heritage Society plans to place a plaque with the boat and a ceremony may be held in July.
I remember taking rides in the originals. That would be a great thing to have back again.
