City Comes Out On Top In Gay Cop Harassment Case

Smolinski sought an unspecified amount of money in damages. He claimed the police department’s email system was used to “circulate information which utilized derogatory terms and statements relating to homosexual and bisexual individuals.”

One joke, entitled, “Time for your annual “Am I Gay” self examination,” included seven offcolor, disparaging questions, he said. The sender included a disclaimer that the message was intended as a joke.

Was going to add a photoshopped picture of a lavender police car but decided not to.
Even though the city won this (it must have cost a lot of library $$ to defend) whomever was using the city’s email to send jokes needs a days suspension or better. What other city resources are the highly paid public safety employees wasting our money on?

$10,000 Goes To Study Of The Obvious

Pacific Grove has a golf course. It’s good.
There, save money and let some ‘consultant’ find another business to scam.

City Director of Management and Budget Jim Becklenberg said the number of rounds played at the course was down 13 percent in 2008, but a 13 percent increase in greens fees and restructuring of the golf course’s discount card system brought revenues up to the previous year’s level.

“Marketing is needed,” he said, “to boost (golf) rounds.”

The city will budget $10,000 to hire a professional golf marketing consultant, Frutchey said, and the committee members will be volunteers.

Two No On J Votes

Another tax request, again for city services. I cannot support this or any other begging from the city until they show that they can manage what they have already.

Need a start?
– End all city supported funding of the ineffective Chamber Of Commerce.
– Cut all ties with “ICLEI”, the Local Governments for Sustainability.
Think that this added tax will benefit the library only? Wrong. The city will be able to draw money away from the library to fund other things. Say forinstance, sustainable seagull repellent for the roof of city hall.

Monterey Hear-Old, 8/25

“It is a way to set the library up with a base outside of the city’s general fund,” Becklenberg said.

Passage of the measure, he said, could secure the future of the library and provide general fund savings of approximately $400,000 toward the $2 million city budget deficit, since Measure J funding would allow the city to use its regular library budget for other purposes until the budget can be balanced.

Sicko Poisoning Cats

Believing her cat’s death was accidental, Edwards consoled herself with the company of her other cat, Todd. But a few days after Lily’s death, the manager of Edwards’ apartment complex said she had discovered a black styrofoam meat tray with antifreeze in one of the complex’s flower beds.
“I picked it up and threw it away,” said the woman, who declined to be identified.

Then, the manager found a tin pie tray filled with antifreeze on a trail behind the apartment complex – an obviously intentional act to kill animals.

Pimping The Town To US Open Golf Fans

Welcome To The Crosby

A marketing plan is needed for Pacific Grove’s golf course to build up attendance and prepare for next summer’s U.S. Open tournament at Pebble Beach, the City Council agreed Wednesday.

Mayor pro tem Bill Kampe had previously proposed that the council appoint a five-member ad hoc committee for the task.

But newly appointed Councilman Robert Huitt suggested the job might better be handled by a professional marketer using city resources, including the Recreation Commission, the three golf clubs affiliated with the municipal course, tourist-oriented business groups and economic development groups.

Barely on the job and Huitt is spending like a sailor on shore leave.

Runner Up Ken Cuneo & Ex Member Robert Huitt Fill Seats

Cuneo Huit

Check that picture in Cedar Street Times – SOMEBODY please send these guys for some grooming.

It took three rounds of nominations and votes to appoint Cuneo, and when the council appeared (on the fourth vote) unable to garner the four votes necessary to fill the vacancy left, they swore Cuneo in and added his vote. He promptly nominated two additional candidates — Dan Miller and Richard Ahart, both of whom ran unsuccessfully in the November, 2008 election with Cuneo — but when it came down to the vote, Cuneo went for Robert Huitt

Tsunami Warning Beach Gathering – Darwin Theory Proven

Tsunami Sign

Story copy from KION website has nothing to do with anything local – but do check the video block – a news reporter is interviewing spectators that went down to the shore to see the waves.

Officials in the San Francisco Bay Area are reporting a quiet night after a tsunami advisory was issued Tuesday for the coastal areas of California and Oregon.

In nearby Pacifica, police closed Pacific Pier earlier that usual, though the waves late Tuesday were reported to be no bigger than those generated during a winter storm.

When Officers arrived, they found 96-year-old Charlotte Danvers lying on the floor, badly beaten. Police say she suffered traumatic injuries and died earlier this morning.
