Kragen Manager Robs Own Store

Kragen auto parts

A trail of auto parts led Monterey police to a young woman and man pushing a cart filled with stolen merchandise early Wednesday morning.

It turned out that the man pushing the cart and loading the items into a van worked as a Kragen Auto Parts manager during the day.

Monterey police arrested Scott Russo, 27, and Elisabeth Roberts, 24, for allegedly burglarizing the Kragen Auto Parts store at 400 Lighthouse Ave.

As they left the store, Russo and Roberts dropped items, leaving a trail that helped police find them, police said.

Ocean View Boulevard Shooting Death

“A Seaside man was killed late Thursday night near Cannery Row in what police say may have been an attempted robbery or carjacking carried out by two men and a woman who remained at large Friday.

Just before midnight, 27-year-old Ignacio Sanchez and a 19-year-old woman were sitting in Sanchez’s black Honda Civic at a stop sign at Eardley Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove. They had just returned to the car after viewing the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s shark holding tanks, said Pacific Grove police Cpl. Darrin Smolinski. Police would not identify the young woman.”

It was not his wife.

Now calling it a carjacking, an arrest was made:

A 20-year-old Salinas man has been arrested for last week’s killing of a Seaside man near Cannery Row. Police say Anthony Joel Estrada was the triggerman in a botched carjacking that resulted in the shooting death of Ignacio Sanchez.

Pacific Grove police said Estrada was arrested early Monday at an apartment at 44 Natividad Road in Salinas with help from the Salinas Police Department’s Violence Suppression Unit. His two accomplices apparently were still being sought Tuesday.

Piano Music Is A $250 Fine

But accordions are a capital offence.

Bossos Match Book

People still enjoy music as a soundtrack to their nighttime endeavors, but now the music is a world away from the melodic tinkling of the ivories that used to be the standard in entertainment. Popular people want popular music, and that”s generally loud music: DJs spinning something to dance to, or bands playing songs individuals can share or get lost in together. And the bars and clubs that can give it to them see more business because of it.

So when Bosso”s owner, Tony Annigoni, brought a DJ into his piano room on Wednesday nights, he was following the most basic of entrepreneurial tenets and making his mousetrap a bit more attractive. It worked. Wednesday night business jumped. But the venture went sour after a few months when the city fined him $250 for conducting live entertainment business without a proper permit.

Urinal Cake Thieves On The Loose

Please remind the tourists from Tennessee that the rock candy in the sinks are not for them…

An unknown culprit has been stealing the urinal cakes from the men’s restroom at the After Dark nightclub in Monterey.

The thefts have occurred on both weekends and weeknights for the past four week, according to nightclub owner Weldon Webb.

“We think he must be using a plastic bag to take them out of here,” said Webb, “but we haven’t seen anything suspicious so far.

Webb doesn’t think that another business is stealing the urinal cakes since the culprit leaves behind the toilet paper and paper towels. “It’s just very annoying,” said Webb.

Earlier this year, the club’s sign was stolen and later returned. Anyone with information regarding the theft or whereabouts of the urinal cakes is encouraged to call the After Dark, although Webb does not want the cakes returned.
