Bad Broccoli Again

Skip the salad, just bring me the steak please.

Bad Broccoli

A Northern California company has voluntarily recalled products sold at supermarkets across the West because they could contain contaminated broccoli. Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific announced the recall this week after a random test by agricultural officials came up positive for the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Monterey Accused Of Violating HIPAA Rules In Raid

If HIPAA rules do not apply to marijuana sellers, how can it be legally called a medicinal drug?

“He opens up a HIPPA labeled file,” says Jhonrico Carrnshimba, a MyCaregiver director. “He sees a number of files in it at this point they should close the file. They shouldn’t have these files open.”

But, Fred Cohn from the City of Monterey defends their actions.

“Medical marijuana establishments are not governed by HIPAA,” says Cohn. “The only reason that those records were compromised is because they continued to operate illegally against the court order.”

Paralyzed P.G. Teen Reflects On DUI Accident

Besides therapy, she’s talking a lot to high school students just like her, only a year ago.

”Instead of sitting here feeling sorry for myself I want to get out there and help others because I wish someone would have helped me. I wish someone would’ve pulled me out of the car, but we all make decisions and we live with them, all of us live with them everyday of our lives,” said Hill.

More Cops During Golf Tournament? Only If There Are Crowds

And there seems to be no prediction of crowds in P.G.

Thousands of golf fans are heading to the Central Coast, but travel at your own risk. We found out why most police departments on the Peninsula are not stepping up patrols for the AT&T Pro-AM. In Monterey, police say they’re not adding extra patrols. In Pacific Grove, same situation, police say not a whole lot is going on during the big event. However, in Carmel, you can expect to see more officers patrolling the streets.

P.G. Cops Get DNA Kits

Csi PG

The Pacific Grove Police Department is being equipped with DNA kits in each of their police cruisers. In the past, if officers wanted DNA collected at a crime scene, they would have to call the sheriff’s department or another agency. Now, officers are going through training at the department to collect it themselves.

“Our database is expanding so much,” says Detective Meghan Bliss, Pacific Grove Police Department. “It’s growing substantially and so we are much more likely, as we collect more and more DNA samples, that we’ll be able to solve more crimes.”

Old Bath House Renovation Drags On

The City of Pacific Grove owns the old bath house building on Ocean View Boulevard. In 2007 it leased the building to a developer, Enea Properties Company. Now the developer, Robert Enea says he’s almost done with renovation plans, but the recession has slowed his business down. Enea wants to bring in a new restaurant into the old bath house building.

Enea is asking the city to change its lease agreement so he can find more money to finish his plans.

“And then I was going to weigh this chain and give him a price and when I turned back around he was not there. And I just didn’t know where he had gone too,” Linda said.

Linda didn’t know because she was distracted by the thieves friend who was asking her questions. Police say the same two men pulled a similar stunt down the street at Wells Jewelry. They stole a gold necklace and a pair of earrings.

Why Is New Monterey Called New Monterey?

New Monterey

KION comes up with a history lesson, but no real explanation.

New Monterey was named by Little and real estate developers about 1886, who began to sell lots in the later 1880s. Little became City Engineer in 1892. The Milton Little (Walter’s father) family farm was located in the area, with the family home and “ranch house” on Lighthouse Ave.

Now, who knows where the taco bell tower columns on that gateway sign came from? They were recycled…
