This Month’s Outrageous Cal Am Bill – $6,000 For A Vacant House

Either the neighbors filled their pool or Cal Am is up to it’s old tricks.

George Gergawy said he’s heard about the large bills for other Cal-Am customers and always thought it wasn’t real, until he opened his mailbox and saw the bill for $6,067.33. And, the home was empty last month after moving out.
According to Gergawy, the past 5 years the water bills at 747 Lyndon Street have been steady, between $15 and $16 dollars.

The Monterey Credit Union on Forest Avenue in Pacific Grove was robbed by a woman with a handgun on New Year’s Eve. Pacific Grove Police say it happened shortly before 5:30 Monday evening, involving a hispanic woman in her 40’s to 50’s in age.

The suspect, who was captured on surveillance cameras, gave the teller a note demanding money and proceeding to pull out a black handgun. The woman told the bank teller there were two men outside the bank with shotguns if they did not comply with handing over the cash.

No One Arrested In Pebble Beach Vandalism

Strange. Steal a bottle of gin and get pummeled and arrested. Steal from the golf course and damage the greens and get let go. Might be a ‘who ya know” situation.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies say they were called out to the golf course around six, Thursday night, when employees said the kids destroyed portions of the greens and stole several golf course items.

Deputies began investigating and were led to one of the kids’ backyard, where they found all five juveniles responsible for the crime.

All five were cited and ticketed but no one was arrested.

Can’t afford the rent. But Moammar has the money to reopen another thrift shop on the same property and continue his quest to be the Central Ave Gateway to P.G.

Moe Ammar Dont Buy American

“The recession hit and I could slowly see our numbers start to decrease, and whereas we were averaging a 1,000 to 1,500 a day. I mean we were having 30 dollar days, 15 dollar days,” explained Strauch.

And that wasn’t going to be enough to pay for her $4,500 a month rent. After negotiations with her landlord didn’t work out, there was no other choice but to close. It was news longtime customers didn’t take lightly.

Sure Moe.

PG In And Out

“It’s hard to believe but the current uses on the books date back to the 1950s. Perhaps it’s time to re-consider what the laws are,” said Chamber of Commerce President Moe Ammar.
Franchise restaurants bring in big business and tax revenue. That means you could see anything from McDonalds to Subway opening in America’s last home town.
“Personally, I think there is a need for the younger generation for places to hang out…and opening up later hours. There’s a lot of ‘mom and pop’s’ right now that close at 5 or 6,” said Ammar.
Some downtown shops we spoke with aren’t worried about new competition. They think they have loyal customers who prefer the small town feel. But one Burger Joint, 17th Street Grille, is concerned the change would mean the end of her business.

Teen On Drugs Caught Breaking Into Apartment

No stranger to police.
Jeffery Rutt

When police arrived on scene, they saw 19-year-old Jeffrey Rutt of Pacific Grove, inside the apartment and called for him to come out. However, Rutt refused to comply. So police called the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department for assistance.

Guns were drawn and officers used a bull horn to get Rutt to come out. After an hour, Rutt surrendered. Police arrested him for being under the influence of a controlled substance. They don’t know if Rutt lives there, but do know he’s been to that apartment from time to time.

Schools Want More Tax Money

“To maintain and improve the quality of education”. Does that mean more parking lots and football stadiums?

The tax, called Measure V, will go before the voters on the November 8 ballot. It asks for a $60 tax per parcel for four years to fund academic services and programs.

If approved by two-thirds of the voters, it would eventually replace Measure X, a $35 parcel tax passed by 70.84% of Pacific Grove voters in 2008. The new measure would add roughly $230,000 per year to the budget beginning in the 2012-2013 year, according to the PGUSD website.

District officials said Measure V will be used as a mechanism to maintain and improve the quality of education in Pacific Grove.

Great White Stops Over In Malibu Before Touring Monterey

Shark lands in the fish prison.

The young shark, a four-foot, seven-inch male weighing 43.2 pounds, was brought north in a 3,200-gallon mobile life support transport vehicle. He was collected August 18 by aquarium staff with the help of a commercial fishing crew using a purse seine net. He was quickly transferred to a more than 4-million-gallon ocean holding pen off Malibu, where he remained for almost two weeks.

Bazooka Rocket Propelled Grenade Found

The Bomb Squad said an estate sale cleaning service found a 1940’s era Bazooka Rocket Propelled Grenade (M6A1) in a garage cabinet.

The Pacific Grove Police Department quickly blocked a two block stretch of 17 Mile Drive that was affected, to prevent any pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Evacuations of surrounding homes were also made.

This type of grenade contains approximately 3.5 pounds of high explosive.

This must be what I saw in a convoy of police/sheriff/CHP cars and the Sheriffs Bomb Squad truck entering the dump north of Marina.

Item was reported to be a M6 grenade.
