Sea Otter Population Shrinks While Shark Population Grows

Hmmm, them scientists might be on to something.

The most recent sea otter census, released by the organization earlier this month, showed a continued downward trend in the number of both adults and pups in California.

August encounters with adult great whites are consistent with findings from a research team led by biologists from Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station. By placing electronic tracking tags on 179 sharks since 2000, they’ve documented that adult great whites congregate near sea lion and elephant seal breeding colonies in Central and Northern California between August and February.

Has Recycling Come To This?

Garbage gestapo. Recycle or face charges.

From cleveland.com

It would be a stretch to say that Big Brother will hang out in Clevelanders’ trash cans, but the city plans to sort through curbside trash to make sure residents are recycling — and fine them $100 if they don’t.

The move is part of a high-tech collection system the city will roll out next year with new trash and recycling carts embedded with radio frequency identification chips and bar codes.

The chips will allow city workers to monitor how often residents roll carts to the curb for collection. If a chip show a recyclable cart hasn’t been brought to the curb in weeks, a trash supervisor will sort through the trash for recyclables.

Lawrence Paul Elliott, 47, and his girlfriend Theresa Barbaro were at the party at the Pebble Beach Lodge when an argument broke out, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

“They got into an argument and some threats were made,” Cmdr. Tracy Brown told The Pine Cone. “She started walking away from him and he grabbed a vase that was on a nearby table and threw it at her, and it hit her in the elbow.”

Pacific Grove No Longer A Substainable City

Pacific Grove is no longer mentioned on any ICLEI member lists at the website. There’s hope yet for our city leaders. Time for Monterey to wake up and quit supporting them with money and compliance too.

Iclei Members

ICLEI methods include infiltrating local government. Organization representatives seek to be hired into local planning departments or they provide “toolkits” to staff. Too many elected officials such as Cool Mayors allow ICLEI to influence policy changes through the use of funding incentives and rewards. While some of these policies sound good on the surface, they result in consequences such as:

* High-density housing scams
* Traffic congestion
* Open space where access is not allowed
* Government “partnering” with favored private businesses and non-profit agencies, using your tax money
* Undermining Constitutional administration of government
* Managed control over your life
* Mismanagement of public utilities
* Prohibitions on natural resource management leading to increased fire hazards, lack of water, and private property restrictions,
* Increased taxes, fees, regulations and restrictions

Next time slip them sleeping pills or strong laxatives.

Safeway Prescriptions

After being given the Oxycontin, the man left the store. He might have left the area in a late 1980s or early 1990s dark gray or black Ford Explorer, police said. The SUV was dirty, police said.

The robber was described as Latino, in his mid-20s, 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap with a DC shoe logo, a blue hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the back, gray sweatpants and white shoes, police said.

Love & Vases

Car week brings them all out, doesn’t it.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said a 47-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of attacking a woman with a vase at the Pebble Beach Lodge.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the call at 6 p.m. following a report that Lawrence Paul Elliott of Beverley Hills had thrown a vase at a woman.

Tax You Very Much!

Don’t forget to vote.
Library Book Drop

The tax would expire in 10 years, and there would be no annual fluctuations.

A similar parcel tax measure last November failed by a narrow margin to get the required two-thirds majority. Language in the new initiative was written to assure the public that funds raised would support only the library and not be transferred to other city departments.
