Was it too quiet for Vicki in Pacific Grove?
After three years as police chief for both Pacific Grove and Seaside, Chief Vicki Myers is stepping down as top cop in Pacific Grove so that she can devote her full attention to Seaside.
Myers made this decision about a month after both city’s police officer associations voted that they have no confidence in her.
When we asked Myers about the votes of no confidence, she said it was one of the many reasons she is switching to solely focus on Seaside.
It is too bad that there’s no local candidates for police chief and we need to resort to part time with Seaside.
Since Myers took over both police departments, under a cost-saving contract with the city of Seaside, police union leadership in both cities have denounced her leadership style, adding that her “intimidation tactics” have crippled morale in both departments.
“Given our second vote of ‘no-confidence’ we feel like this is a good direction for our police department and the city to take,” Renfro said.
There have also been calls to investigate what some say is a hostile work environment, including a complaint last year involving seven of her employees in Seaside alleging “inappropriate physical contact” in separate occasions, one employee claiming she was punched by Myers, according to Frank Martin of the Seaside Police Officers Association.

When the press release arrived in email inboxes yesterday, announcing there were firm plans to replace Pacific Grove’s American Tin Cannery with a luxury hotel, it only hinted at the grand ambitions of developers Domaine Hospitality Partners, LLC.
The statement read that “Project Bella”—the working title for the development—“aims to be the leading luxury hotel in the United States.”

Officers and firefighters responded to a report of an explosion in Pacific Grove Sunday morning.
When officers arrived at the 900 block of Ruth Court at about 11 a.m., they found a homemade incendiary device, police said.
Monterey County Bomb Squad along with the County Hazardous Materials team also responded. Officials said preliminary tests indicated it was an “acid filled bottle.”
With summer season beginning to take off, the website TripAdvisor has ranked Pacific Grove as one of its Top 12 Scenic Vacation Destinations.
“We could not have wished for anything better,” said Moe Ammar, the president of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce. “We will ride this for 18 months and kick butt.”

PGPD say 29-year-old Jason Rutt entered the home through an unlocked door and proceeded to shower, eat a meal, then went into the small children’s bedroom and began feeding them.
The parents at the home awoke when they heard the shower water running, Rutt took off and investigators believe he burglarized two more homes gaining access through unlocked garages.

Jacob Miller, of Pacific Grove, was sentenced Tuesday to consecutive terms of 365 days, 30 days and 30 days for a probation violation, two counts of possession of stolen property and methadone possession.
He was also sentenced to three years’ formal probation, related fines and fees, and 200 hours of community service.
Miller was arrested in January on drugs, weapons and burglary charges. He was initially accused of burglarizing the Asimolar Conference Grounds, but 28-year-old Wesley Langkamp, of Monterey, confessed to the crimes in early April.
The burglary counts and the remaining misdemeanors were dismissed Tuesday in court.

The SiFi Networks rep, Scott Bradshaw — who appears in the photo with Mayor Pro Tem Robert Huitt — has represented this solution / funding model under different company names over the past four years. We met him while it was i3 America. He and a representative from Pickstock Group met with our community last year. Although we were very interested and wanted to move forward, there was no follow up. Apparently, the municipality of Sandy, Oregon — which had already gone to contract with i3 America — wound up with a nonexistent network and then had to sue this new company to move forward without SiFi’s involvement. Good luck Pacific Grove.
