Saying the Peninsula has waited long enough for a solution to its water supply, the Pacific Grove City Council voted Wednesday to endorse the Regional Water Project, which calls for a desalination plant run by a public agency to be a source for California American Water.
The vote was 5-2, with Councilwomen Lisa Bennett and Deborah Lindsay dissenting.

Peninsula developer Nader Agha, whose complaint against Supervisor Dave Potter over a disputed $10,000 campaign contribution went nowhere with the state’s political watchdog agency, has now filed a civil lawsuit charging Potter with fraud and breach of contract.
In the suit filed April 12 in Monterey County Superior Court, Agha alleges that Potter solicited the contribution in January 2004, requested that it be made out to his campaign manager as a loan and subsequently used the money for personal use. Agha’s suit seeks $10,000 with interest and punitive damages..

Two experts testified Tuesday that the woman allegedly raped by Thomas Pollacci in his father’s Pacific Grove liquor store was critically injured in a fall, not by being struck by an object.
The fact that Jane Doe 5 had a laceration on the left side of her head, but internal brain injuries only on the right side, showed her head was moving when it struck a stationary object, not the other way around, according to Dr. Joseph Cohen, chief pathologist for Riverside County, and Bahram Ravani, a UC Davis biomechnical engineering professor.

Liu told jurors in his opening statement that his client and the woman had consensual sex and that she then fell from the second-story loft where they had been drinking wine together. Too embarrassed to admit she had sex with Pollacci, a registered sex offender, she made up the story and has since filed a federal lawsuit against Pollacci and his family, Liu said.
