Water War – Use It Or Have It Taken Away

Owner of the old Grove Theater building is sitting on water allotment, city want’s to pull it out from him..

On Wednesday, the P.G. City Council decided the owner of a downtown building who has excess water should either use the allotment or give it back so others can.

Rudas’ attorney, Dave Swaggert, firmly told the council they have no right to take away his client’s water. “I don’t know who is more shocked, Mr. Rudas or me,” Swaggert said, “that the [city] would deprive Mr. Rudas of a vested property right.”

Carpenters Union – Lost 51% if certification elections in 2006.

In a suit filed Aug. 5, Carpenters Local Union 605 contends DMC Construction — the firm hired by PGUSD for the stadium redo — did not show proof that a portion of its subcontractors for the project are disabled veterans, which is required by the state.

DMC general manager Mark Lord said Thursday there had been a clerical error in DMC’s paperwork for the bid, but that matter had been resolved.

Parolee With Warrants Gets Busted – For Talking On Cell Phone

Hey bad guys! Better use your hands free device – the only chance of getting nailed on a warrant is when you talk on the mobile.

Hands Free Kit

Just after 5 p.m. July 24, Cpl. Roxane Viray reportedly spotted Pacific Grove resident Robert Odonnell, 42, holding a cell phone to his ear as he drove down the street — which became illegal July 1.

He provided Viray with a temporary driver’s license, but when she walked back to her patrol car to see if he was wanted on any warrants, he got out of his car, saying something about having to pick up his kids, according to Nyunt.

Purse Snatchers On Lighthouse Avenue

While all the police were at the Pet Parade.

A woman was robbed by two men in Pacific Grove Friday afternoon, moments after the Feast of Lanterns pet parade concluded, according to Cmdr. John Nyunt.

“When all of our officers were tied up on this parade, we had an individual walking at Lighthouse and 13th toward town,” he said. At about 3 p.m. July 25, two men wearing dark clothing with hoodies grabbed her purse from her.

P.G. Farmers Market Faces Another Challenge

So we know that Grove Market opposes the farmers market because it’s competition. Ron’s Liquors opposes it because all of the veggie loving crowd will make the consumers of tobacco, booze & pr0n shop elsewhere, now a veterinarian says nay nay because people would not be able to drive down the one way street . . .Cottage Vet

But Cottage Veterinary Care owner Jennifer Wernsing, whose business is on 16th Street, has appealed the planning commission’s approval of the location, requesting instead the market be held between 15th and 13th streets or on Saturdays.

“This street closure would be a terrible obstacle for each of my 3,000-plus local clients and their beloved pets,” Wernsing wrote in her appeal, dated June 26.

Wernsing contends that would require clients and pets to walk several blocks to her office.

For one business hour on Mondays, people would need to walk half a block from Central (or cut through the parking lot across the street). Hardly the “several blocks” she states. Makes it sound like all 3,000 customers would be arriving at 4:05 pm on Monday. Is she related to Grove Market or Ron’s Liquors?

And what about education on skills that we use everyday?

Measure X PG High Stadium

The decades-old stadium will get new aluminum bleachers, a synthetic grass field, snack bar, scoreboard, field house and wheelchair access. The project began June 7 and is expected to be finished next spring.

The project is being paid for by taxpayers through a $42 million bond made possible through Measure D, which voters approved in June 2006 to renovate P.G. schools.

“In the wintertime it gets so muddy that it’s impossible for the kids to play a good game of soccer,” McCord said. “With artificial turf, the ball is so much more responsive.”

Yah, responsive balls. That will help me out in later life . .

Leave A Million Dollars In A Mini Storage?

If I was really looking out for the security of gold coins, I’d be asking a bank with a vault. Not a place where excess household junk is kept. Where’s Nadar??? Is he hiding in the bushes?
X space Mini Storage

In a lawsuit filed June 18 against Extra Space Storage, Lillian King is seeking compensation for valuable silver coins and precious jewelry, which she says were stolen in 2006.

In January 2006, King’s attorney arranged to have 17 boxes of gold and silver coins and jewelry placed into a unit at the storage facility, according to the suit. In May of that year, King’s attorney removed two boxes of gold coins from the unit and placed them into a bank for safe keeping. However, days after that, the lawsuit claims, the storage unit was broken into and the remaining 15 boxes of silver coins and jewelry were stolen.

City Manager Suddenly Quits

Colangelo, who has 28 years experience in local government, said he’s not sure if he’ll look for another job, but that he plans to stay in the area, at least for a while. He said his son Dylan’s graduation from P.G. High last month was another reason for his resignation. “I feel like I have accomplished a lot of things,” he said. “I have reached a point in my career where I want to reconsider what I want to do.”

I wonder if all the employees that followed him to PG will do without him?

Farmers Market Might Be Dead As Evening Business Is

Pacific Grove farmers’ market, scheduled to debut in July, will be delayed for at least two weeks — and could be called off altogether this year — because of an advertising blunder in the Monterey County Herald, city officials said.

Scheduled to debut July 7, the farmers’ market will be set back because the Herald failed to print a public hearing notice for last week’s city council meeting in which the market was discussed.

“It’s too bad it will be delayed,” P.G. Mayor Dan Cort told The Pine Cone, “because we are all so excited about the farmers’ market.”

Well, if you can’t buy some vegetables, we can always find you some toast and noodles for about $30 . .

Forget The Butterflies, It’s “The Most Romantic City”

Does someone else own the copyright to “The Newly Wed And Nearly Dead”?

The Pacific Grove City Council Wednesday voted to use the brands as part of a marketing strategy to draw more tourists to the city.
Although P.G. for some time has billed itself in fliers, brochures and advertisements as the most romantic destination, the copyrights will solidify those monikers and generate publicity.

The city wants to be known as the “most romantic city,” “most romantic town” and “most romantic place.” “It creates news by saying you have copyrighted it,” said P.G. Chamber of Commerce President Moe Ammar.
