The only thing more constant than fog in Pacific Grove is Moe Ammar.
The 56-year-old has outlasted six city managers, five police chiefs, seven mayors and dozens of other chamber executives in neighboring communities.
“I’ll stay as long as I’m wanted,” he said two weeks ago while eating at Vivolo’s Chowder House. “I want to serve this special community that has embraced me.”

A Florida couple has filed a lawsuit alleging two local real estate professionals conspired to enlist them in a fraudulent home loan to secure a house in Pacific Grove.
Seemingly backed up with tape-recorded evidence, the couple claim loan officer Robert Walker and Realtor Deba Christensen tried to persuade them to fabricate a lease agreement and rental income on their Florida residence to qualify for a loan. When they balked, commercial pilot David Hurstfield-Meyer said, he lost more than $13,000 he had placed in deposit.

The project, which is being done by Nor-Cal Contractor, is supposed to be wrapped up by April 4, possibly sooner, before the city’s April 13-14 Good Old Days celebration.
Unlike many public works endeavors, the $190,000 intersection project is being paid for with a $309,000 bequest made in 2007 by Jeannette McIndoo to help beautify downtown, restore the Point Pinos Lighthouse and plant trees.

Axe A Question, Get Sign Chopped
Andrew Enriquez, 26, was arrested about 5:30 a.m. Sunday after he was seen running with an ax in his hands, police said.
He tried to evade officers by hiding beneath a car in the 100 block of Central Avenue, but he was caught, police said.
After he was taken into custody, police determined the man was intoxicated and he admitted having damaged a “Welcome to Pacific Grove” sign on the Recreation Trail near Eardley Avenue, police said.
The sign was broken in half, apparently by the ax-wielder, police said. Damage was estimated at $1,800.
AT&T Moves Cell Tower For Better Signal In Dead Zones
Frutchey said the cemetery site will be temporary, too, until AT&T finds a suitable permanent site.
The cell tower has been a source of some controversy. It was leased at the school site without city permission. School officials originally believed they had a one-year lease. And the tower drew criticism from residents who said the wireless tower poses health hazards to students, residents and butterflies at the nearby monarch sanctuary.
