Terrorists At The Beach?

Was only a greens keeper out to get the gophers…

At around 8:30 a.m., a beachcomber reported spotting a suspicious device that looked like two pipe bombs taped together at the base of a 40-foot cliff near the 9th hole at Pebble Beach, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Monterey County sheriff’s bomb squad went to the scene, examined the device, and rendered it safe.

Parking Dewey

Under the plan, the parking spaces would be limited to residents or to two-hour stays during the daytime. Burgess said that would protect residents, provide visitor parking and deter all-day parking by employees from the aquarium or other nearby businesses.

In the meantime, the city will have to comply with its current permit and put bags over residents-only parking signs.

“We talked to the neighbors last week, and they understand the need,” Burgess said. “We will be bagging those signs.”

Cops Called To Council Meeting

Resistance if futile, your privacy will be invaded.

Pacific Grove Police were called out to Wednesday’s city council meeting, expecting a riot about SmartMeters. The police presence caught many people off guard in the quiet town.

“I was surprised,” says Jerry Norton. “It seems to represent a different kind of attitude.”

Norton lives in Pacific Grove. He’s talking about the two armed police officers. One guarded the front door, the other was inside the packed council meeting.

Play Ball On Saturdays At P.G. Muni Park

NIMBYs that move in next to a ball park want peaceful use of the property. Make the kids and families go elsewhere and all you are left with is the tourists.

Baseball and softball coaches, players and parents argued successfully for the changes, saying children needed a facility for play and such fields are in short supply.

Saturday games were curtailed by the city after complaints about late-night adult games, alcohol use, litter, lights and noise, but Mothershead said city permit requirements could control the problem.

Among neighbors opposed to Saturday use was Margo Gurs, who said that “in the absence of strict rules, a neighborhood can be ruined.” She said residents have a right to peaceful use of their property.
