100 Block Lh Fire

An elderly woman is still recovering in the hospital after a late night house fire in Pacific Grove. The fire started around 10 p.m. Friday night in a duplex on Lighthouse Avenue.

Fire officials are calling the home a total loss and now four people are left without a home.

“She suffered some burns to her mouth and her hands as a result of her trying to extinguish the fire.”

The woman was inside her living room. She was lying on the couch and she had a heating pad on her arm. Fire officials are now trying to determine if that’s the cause of the fire.

Arron Corn Party Host Seeks Plea Bargain

Christopher “CJ” Veloz is charged with hosting a party at his home on Sydia Drive Feb. 21 where alcohol was consumed by minors.

Pacific Grove attorney Dave Laredo confirmed he and Veloz’s attorney, Susan Chapman, met in a Salinas courtroom Thursday to discuss a deal that could result in Veloz’s plead-
ing no contest, akin to a guilty plea.

Arrests Made In Safeway Oxycontin Robbery

Safeway Prescriptions

Informants led Pacific Grove police to the 19-year-old Seaside man they suspect of robbing the pharmacy at Safeway and fleeing with 800 Oxycontin pills two weeks ago, and to another male they believe was involved in the crime. Cmdr. John Nyunt reported officers took Johnny Rodriguez into custody after serving a search warrant on his home last Thursday morning, and they had 20-year-old Seaside resident Cameron Ferguson arrested on the tarmac at San Jose Airport later that day.

Pacific Grove Triathlon, In The Doo Doo Again.

Damn the parasites, full speed ahead.

“We paid a lot of money for this Triathlon and I’ve trained for almost a year now so I’m just going to go for it,” said Triathlon Swimmer, Christal Alderton.

“Every year we always have something going on with the water. It’s a still time of year. But because of contact with the county we just felt like let’s do it! And everyone’s been swimming and enjoying the ocean and we haven’t had any ill effects,” said Betsy Davis Co-Owner Tri-California

Now the warning signs have the local spin job saying the levels are down next to them.

Coast Weakly

The Weakly has a story about the efforts to import some trees for this coming winter’s butterfly migration.

Heavy pruning of the sanctuary’s eucalyptus trees a year ago may have been responsible for the estimated 96 percent drop in the monarch population there last overwintering season – although, according to butterfly experts, the population simultaneously fell about 90 percent throughout the Central Coast.

Funny is the comment from M. Butterflies:

Monarch Butterflies are known to be very conservative Republicans who believe in the rule of law, individualism, and private property. Most Monarch’s have changed their migration patterns to avoid over-taxed nanny states like California.

This attempt to set up overpriced Government subsidized housing is going to be considered a serious insult to a vast majority of Monarch’s, who are all ready counter-protesting Monterey Counties boycott of Arizona.

P.G. Says No To Pot Sales

Though they bow down to liquor stores.

Residential Care Facilities, eh? Maybe Canturbury Woods can use the homes on Spazier to grow pot now that people are not allowed to live there.

A Pot Hicary

The ordinance, prepared at the council’s direction by City Attorney David Laredo, prohibits “growing, selling, distributing or operating marijuana dispensaries” medical or otherwise.

There are exclusions, Laredo said, for health care, residential care or hospice facilities to provide marijuana to patients who hold doctors’ prescriptions for cannabis, and residents can grow plants “in strict compliance with the (state) compassionate use act.”

Passionfish Owners Lose Passion For Old Bath House

“It seemed like the endless project,” Cindy Walter said of the undertaking she and her husband, Ted, took on four years ago.

Their lives have changed in that time, Walter said — she had two surgeries and has another scheduled — and they decided their Passionfish restaurant in Pacific Grove is all they want to handle now. They have owned it for 13 years.

Walter said she and her husband invested time, emotion and thousands of dollars in the Old Bath House project. As it proceeded, “there were more and more expenses,” she said.

New Monterey Marijuana Market Gets Lawyer

Richard Rosen, LOL. Defender of David Stamm and Chowdergate lawyer.

Pot Shop Moratorium

Richard Rosen and Jeanine Strong say they will not only prove the nonprofit co-op is operating legally, but will go after the “real violators” — local governments and law enforcement agencies that have refused to implement the medicinal marijuana law.

In the 14 years since the Compassionate Care Act legalized medicinal marijuana in the state, said Rosen, not one medical marijuana facility has been authorized in the county.

“While the rest of the state is following the law, Monterey County is and has been consistently flaunting the law,” he said. “It’s a terrible and dangerous policy because when government ignores the law, it encourages everyone to ignore the law.”

The rest of the state is realizing that it’s about money and not compassion. They are closing down dispensaries.

L.A. Times:

The city of Los Angeles has warned 439 medical marijuana dispensaries that they must shut their doors by June 7. City prosecutors began notifying dispensary operators the first week of May, the first step in what could be a lengthy and expensive legal battle to regain control over pot sales.
